MOBO Gregory Promise Bortey Newman, who is popularly known as King Promise, has said that there is no need to have personal contact with an artist before giving out support to promote the artist.

Ghanian singer, King Promise.

Ghanaian singer, King Promise has once again got fans talking about his fashion sense on the red carpet at the just ended MOBO Awards where he wore a sneaker that is estimated to cost more than 11,000 Ghana Cedis.

The Ghanaian singer, who is known to be a sneakerhead, was present at the Music Of Black Origin awards ceremony and he stepped out in high taste of fashion, rocking a two-tone Bottega Veneta pair of sneakers.

The ‘Oh yeah’ singer also showed up on the red carpet in style with his green sole Bottega Veneta over a green sweater, black leather jacket, pair of star-studded jeans and green sunglasses to complete the look.

This year’s edition of MOBO awards was held at the Coventry’s CBS Arena on Sunday, December 5th, 2021 in the U.K and hosted by comedian Munya Chawawa and Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock. The ceremony saw global music icons gracing the event.

It can be recalled that King Promise was nominated in the Best African Music Act category alongside Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, CKay, Davido, NSG, Rema, Tems and Tiwa Savage, which saw Nigeria’s Wizkid emerging winner.

The ‘Slow Down’ singer shared his MOBO red carpet moments on social media and his sneakers caught the attention of tweeps as searches show that the shoes cost 1,834 dollars on the Bottega Veneta online store.

While some tweeps were stunned that King Promise bought the sneakers at that price, others used the opportunity to make fun of him, calling him names such as “Green Lantern” and “Peter Pan”. Others also compared his whole look with that of a motorcyclist and even asked if he arrived at the venue on a motorbike.

Below are some comments about King Promise’s MOBO outfit:

@Elorm_doe: “You and your sneakers. Why doesn’t it weigh you on stage?”

@Bra_Kpakpo: “Imagine going to church with this sneaker and your pastor asks you to jump on satan. That traditional belief lmao. If that be true, then Satan is in serious trouble”.

@Monik_: “This right here is Ghana’s green lantern”.

@Nanakwameciss: “You went there with a motorbike?”.

@Ohene_fraku: “Nice but couldn’t you wear anything simple”.

@Bruce_larbi: “If you were a cast for Green lantern, I doubt you would have dressed this way during its premiere. Ah, Bortey why?”

@EGigatt: “Imagine if this was Kwame Eugene. Ghanaians would have trolled and dissed him. But this is fashion”.

This wouldn’t be the first time King Promise is making headlines over his footwear. The ‘CCTV’ crooner has always turned heads on every red carpet when it comes to his fashion sense, especially with his footwear. Over the years, the singer has proven that he has an unwithering love for huge boots and sneakers. This has even earned him the nickname, ‘Mr. Camboo’.

In June this year, the singer spoke extensively on his love for sneakers and boasted about how expensive they were.

“I hear that I like wearing big ‘camboos’. Because of how it looks, people might probably think it’s cheap but some of my sneakers actually cost a couple of thousands of dollars. To people who are really into sneakers, they will understand”.
