Emerging talent Morgan Nero emerged victorious in the highly competitive Unsung Artiste of the Year category for the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which will be held on May 9 at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra.

The Unsung category, one of TGMA’s most watched segments, celebrates breakthrough artists who have shown exceptional promise but are yet to achieve mainstream dominance.

This year’s edition featured a strong shortlist of five nominees: Morgan Nero, Bosoma, Haeven, Cojo Rae, and Siicie.

Morgan Nero’s win marks a significant milestone for the young artiste, whose blend of Afro-fusion, soulful melodies, and relatable storytelling has resonated deeply with Ghanaian youth.

 Industry insiders credit his consistent output, viral social media presence, and fan-driven voting campaign (#NeroGborna) for propelling him to the top.

The TGMA Unsung category has a proven track record of launching careers. Past winners and nominees often secure record deals, major collaborations, and festival slots shortly after their recognition.

This year was no different reports indicate that fellow nominee Bosoma reportedly landed a promising deal following his electrifying TGMA stage appearance, underscoring the category’s role as a launchpad.

TGMA organizers emphasized the importance of this category in their mission to nurture Ghana’s rich talent pool. “Unsung is where we find the future of Ghanaian music,” said a TGMA representative. “These artistes represent the innovation and resilience that keep our industry vibrant.”

Morgan Nero, who hails from a humble background and began making music as a teenager, uploading tracks to local platforms before gaining traction on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

His breakout singles showcased a unique sound that fuses contemporary Afrobeats with highlife elements and introspective lyrics about love, ambition, and everyday struggles in Ghana.

Prior to the awards, Nero was part of an intensive nominees’ tour that included interviews on major stations like Bryt FM and TV3, where the contenders showcased their personalities and musical journeys.

Nero’s victory comes at a time when Ghanaian music continues to gain international traction, with artistes like Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, and King Promise dominating bigger categories.

The Unsung win provides Nero with crucial visibility expect increased streaming numbers, brand endorsements, and features on major playlists in the coming months.
