Real Madrid CF have officially confirmed that club captain Dani Carvajal will leave the club at the end of the current season, bringing to a close one of the most decorated careers in the history of the Spanish giants.
The announcement marks the end of an extraordinary 23-year relationship between Carvajal and the club he joined as an 11-year-old in 2002.
Although he briefly left the club after being sold to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2012, Real Madrid immediately activated their buyback clause just a year later following his impressive performances in Germany. He returned to the Santiago Bernabéu in 2013 and went on to establish himself as one of the club’s most influential figures before eventually becoming captain.
Over more than two decades, the veteran right-back rose through the academy ranks before becoming one of the defining faces of Real Madrid’s modern era.
In an emotional statement released by the club, Madrid described Carvajal as “one of the greatest legends of our club and world football,” while praising his “commitment, leadership” and contribution during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Carvajal departs having won 27 major trophies with Los Blancos, including six UEFA Champions League titles, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga crowns, two Copa del Rey trophies and four Spanish Super Cups.
The Player Who “Exemplified” the “Values” of Real Madrid
The club’s statement paid tribute to the defender’s long-standing service and achievements, highlighting both his impact on the pitch and his deep connection to the institution. “Carvajal has always exemplified the values of Real Madrid. This is and will always be his home,” the statement revealed.
Also the release recalled a symbolic image of Carvajal alongside legendary former player Alfredo Di Stéfano during the laying of the first stone of Ciudad Real Madrid, describing it as a moment that “will forever remain in the hearts of all madridistas.”
Over the course of his Madrid career, Carvajal made 450 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals while establishing himself as one of the most reliable right-backs of his generation. His consistency, defensive aggression and leadership qualities earned him the captaincy and the admiration of supporters across Europe.
Despite suffering injuries during different stages of his career, Carvajal consistently returned to play a central role in Madrid’s biggest successes. One of his most memorable performances came in the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, where he scored and was later named the match’s best player.
His performances that year also earned him a place in the FIFPro World XI and The Best FIFA Men’s World XI in 2024, further cementing his status among the elite players in world football.
Beyond club football, Carvajal enjoyed success with the Spain national team, earning 51 international caps. He helped Spain win the UEFA Nations League in 2023 before adding the UEFA Euro 2024 title to his honours list.
Real Madrid confirmed that Carvajal will receive a farewell tribute at the Santiago Bernabéu during Saturday’s final La Liga match of the season against Athletic Club.
The occasion is expected to be emotional for both the player and supporters, with fans set to honour a footballer who dedicated virtually his entire career to the club.
While no official announcement has yet been made regarding Carvajal’s next move, his departure signals the end of an era for Real Madrid as the club prepares for a future without one of its most loyal and accomplished servants.
