President John Dramani Mahama would secure an even larger victory if Ghana’s 2024 presidential election were repeated today, according to the latest June 2026 tracking survey released by Global InfoAnalytics.
The findings, shared by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, suggest that the political landscape remains heavily tilted in favour of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), with President Mahama maintaining strong public support more than a year after his election victory.
According to the survey, President Mahama would obtain 63.3 percent of valid votes in a hypothetical rerun of the 2024 presidential election. His main challenger, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would secure 34.4 percent, while all other candidates would collectively receive 2.3 percent.
The poll indicates that President Mahama’s support remains close to the level he achieved during the 2024 election, while the NPP’s presidential candidate appears to have lost ground since the last national vote.
“Will NPP win a re-run of the 2024 elections if the elections were held today? Not according to the polls,” Mr. Dankwa stated while presenting the survey findings. He added that the data points to a clear advantage for President Mahama should voters return to the polls under current political conditions.
Non Voters Still Unlikely to Support NPP
One of the notable findings of the survey relates to citizens who did not participate in the 2024 general election. According to the poll, even among those who abstained from voting in the last election, support for the NPP remains relatively weak.
The survey found that if these non-voters were given another opportunity to cast their ballots, President Mahama would attract 56.7 percent of their votes, compared to 35.3 percent for Dr Bawumia. Other candidates would receive 9 percent.

The findings suggest that the NPP faces challenges not only in retaining support among its traditional voter base but also in attracting new voters and previously disengaged citizens.
Mr. Dankwa observed that while President Mahama’s performance remains broadly consistent with his 2024 electoral showing, Dr Bawumia appears to be losing support to smaller political alternatives.
“The poll shows JDM performing near what he obtained in the 2024 election, DMB rather lost ground to other candidates, a phenomenon the NPP should seek to cure if they really want to win the 2028 elections”.

Political analysts say this trend could become a significant concern for the opposition party as it begins preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Regional Trends Reveal Mixed Picture
Despite President Mahama’s strong national performance, the survey reveals some regional challenges for the President and the NDC. According to the findings, President Mahama would struggle to maintain dominance in parts of the Bono and Bono East regions.
The survey also suggests that he could lose support in the Northern regions compared to previous electoral performances. However, these setbacks are offset by gains in several key electoral strongholds and battleground regions.
The poll projects that President Mahama would win the Eastern Region, an area traditionally considered a stronghold of the NPP. The survey further indicates that he would improve on his previous electoral performance in the Greater Accra, Central, Western and Western North regions.

The findings suggest that while the NDC may face challenges in certain areas, it continues to expand its appeal in regions that often play decisive roles in national elections.
The survey also found that President Mahama could underperform in the Volta Region, one of the NDC’s most reliable support bases. However, the decline in that region does not appear significant enough to affect his overall national advantage.
Approval Ratings Reflect Electoral Strength
The latest poll also appears to reinforce recent findings regarding the President’s approval ratings. According to Mr. Dankwa, the survey results are consistent with earlier data showing that President Mahama continues to enjoy strong public approval.
The Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director argued that the latest voting intention figures provide additional evidence that the President remains popular among voters despite claims from critics that public support for his administration has weakened.

“Now, for those who think the 71 percent approval rating is a joke, this is internally consistent data showing JDM will do better than in 2024, a development which should not be happening to a president some say is now unpopular”.

The findings suggest that public perceptions of the President’s performance continue to translate into electoral support, strengthening the NDC’s position ahead of future political contests.
Implications for 2028 Elections
While the survey does not predict the outcome of the 2028 presidential election, it provides an early indication of the political challenges facing both major parties.
For the NDC, the findings suggest that the party has largely retained the coalition that delivered victory in 2024 and may even be broadening its appeal in key regions.
For the NPP, however, the poll highlights the need to regain support among undecided voters, former supporters, and non-voters if it hopes to mount a competitive challenge in the next general election.

Mr. Dankwa concluded his assessment by defending the survey results and maintaining confidence in the data. “The data is the data. I came in peace, but I know I will get none,” he remarked.
The June 2026 tracking survey by the Global InfoAnalytics is expected to generate debate within both major political parties as they assess voter sentiment and begin positioning themselves for the road to 2028.
