The National Service Authority (NSA) has released postings for 18,617 eligible nurses and midwives for the 2026/2027 National Service Year, paving the way for thousands of newly qualified health professionals to commence mandatory national service from July 1, 2026.
With deployment set to begin on July 1, the National Service Authority is urging all posted nurses and midwives to complete mandatory validation on time, warning that failure to fulfil national service obligations could carry legal consequences under Act 1119.
“Eligible graduates are urged to complete their regional validation before July 10 as the National Service Authority outlines its deployment timeline and reminds prospective personnel of their legal obligations under Act 1119.”

The announcement, made in a press release issued on June 22, 2026, marks the beginning of the deployment process for nurses and midwives who successfully passed the August/September 2025 Licensure Examination (Major Season) conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
The Authority has urged all affected personnel to complete the required validation process within the stipulated period to facilitate a smooth commencement of service.
NSA, declared that all eligible nurses and midwives can now access their postings through the Authority’s online portal and are expected to follow the prescribed procedures for regional validation before assuming their assigned duties.
The statement mentioned that the regional validation exercise commenced on Monday, June 22, 2026, and will end on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Eligible personnel have been directed to visit the Authority’s official website, access the posting portal and complete all validation requirements at their designated regional centres before reporting for duty.
According to the release, the national service deployment itself will officially begin on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, making timely completion of the validation process essential.
“The regional validation exercise starts today, 22nd June 2026, and ends on Friday, 10th July 2026,”
the statement noted.
Management encouraged all prospective national service personnel to adhere strictly to the timelines to avoid delays in their deployment.
Qualified Candidates
NSA clarified that the postings cover only candidates who successfully completed the August/September 2025 Nursing and Midwifery Council Licensure Examination.
It explained that the exercise forms part of its annual mandate to deploy qualified tertiary graduates to undertake national service in fulfilment of Ghana’s statutory requirements.
“Deployment of nurses and midwives remains particularly important in supporting healthcare delivery across the country while providing newly qualified professionals with practical experience.”

Legal Requirement for National Service
The National Service Authority says that national service remains a legal obligation under the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119)
Citing Section 29(1) of the Act, the NSA stated that every Ghanaian citizen who has completed a recognised tertiary education programme is required to undertake national service unless exempted under the law.
Management noted that compliance with the law remains essential for both graduates and employers.
Warning to Prospective Employees and Employers
The NSA also drew attention to the legal consequences for qualified graduates who fail to undertake national service before seeking employment.
Under the provisions of Act 1119, employers are prohibited from employing persons who are legally required to undertake national service but have failed to do so unless they have obtained a lawful exemption.
They further explained that employers have a statutory duty to verify whether prospective employees have fulfilled their national service obligations before offering them employment. employers who fail to comply with these requirements risk administrative sanctions under the law.
The statement also noted that individuals who secure employment without first completing national service may be directed by the Authority to undertake the mandatory service in a field determined by the National Service Board.
The Registrar of Companies is prohibited from registering the business, partnership or company of any individual who is required to undertake national service but has not complied with the legal requirement, unless that individual has been formally exempted.
These measures, the Authority said, are intended to strengthen compliance with the National Service Authority Act and reinforce the importance of national service as a civic responsibility.
Call for Compliance
The National Service Authority also called on all prospective service personnel to comply fully with the published procedures and deadlines to ensure a seamless deployment process.
Management stressed that timely validation and adherence to the deployment schedule would facilitate the successful commencement of the 2026/2027 National Service Year for all eligible nurses and midwives.
The statement signed by Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh, encouraged all affected graduates to complete the necessary requirements promptly and support the Authority’s efforts to ensure an efficient and orderly national service deployment across the country.
