Gospel singer, Esther Owusu has opened up about the deeply personal inspiration behind her latest single “Great Change,” describing a journey from hardship to gratitude in a recent interview. The artist, popularly known as Piesie Esther, linked the song’s message to her own past struggles and the transformative power of faith.

Reflecting on earlier years, she recalled moments of scarcity that shaped her perspective. “Some years ago, it was tough for me to have a dress for a picture,” she said. “But there is a great change.” She remembered owning just one pair of shoes that she carefully chose for its versatility. “That was the only shoe that I had… So if I wear blue, I can wear it. If I wear white, I can wear it. That was the particular shoe that I have. But there is a great change.”

The track draws from a broader narrative of reversal. Esther described a family story in which the eldest sibling faced poverty and rejection while others prospered, only for circumstances to shift dramatically. “When it is your turn, my goodness… Nothing can stop you. Nothing, absolutely,” she stated. The song, she explained, is meant to remind listeners that seasons change and that gratitude must remain central.

“What should a person take from this music? Be grateful to God. Be grateful for how far He has brought you,” Esther said. She shared a testimony from a fan who once sold goods from a table in front of her house and now owns a supermarket. “There is a great change. So just be grateful to God for how far.”

Before recording the song, Esther said she found herself reflecting on God’s goodness while lying in bed. She also recalled the early days of her hit “Mente Ase,” when the music gained popularity but her identity remained largely unknown.

“I was even in a car with a sister… She was playing Mente Ase… And she was, ah, this is my all-time favorite. And I don’t even know the person who sang this song… there was a great change. That very day, people started singing the song”

The accompanying music video features high-production visuals directed by Skyward. Esther described dramatic scenes that required physical commitment, including sequences involving water and intense storytelling elements that depict hardship, rescue, and eventual elevation.

She emphasized her desire for quality, noting that the project demanded significant investment. “We spent a lot on this one,” she said. The video has already drawn strong online attention, approaching the two-million-view mark according to comments during the interview.

Supporters Interactions

Esther maintains close ties with her supporters beyond stage performances. She makes time to engage with them on social media, commenting on posts and responding to messages. “I always try to also comment on their posts… Show them love,” she explained. “When you’re celebrating your birthday… just to wish them a happy birthday.” Even while traveling, she finds moments to acknowledge fans who use her songs on platforms such as TikTok. “I was in the car, you know, commenting the videos… just to say thank you.”

Looking ahead, Esther is preparing for the fifth edition of her annual event, Flora Made By Grace Concert Grace. The gatherings will take place in Accra on November 1 at Perez Dome and in Kumasi on November 15 at the Church of Pentecost in Bantama, both starting at 4 p.m. Entry is free. The theme this year is “5 Years of Greater Grace,” building on last year’s “Overflowing Grace.”

She expressed regret over last year’s overcrowding that prevented some attendees from entering and promised a larger experience this time. Supporting artists confirmed for the Accra date include ASP Kofi Sarpong, Tagoe Sisters, Francis Amo, Uncle Ato, Ohemaa Mercy, and Kweku Teye. The Kumasi lineup features Piesie Esther Kweku Gyasi, Jojo Arhin, Mama Esther,Obaapa Mabel Okyere,Quame Gyedu and Victoria Sarfo.

“We are not doing concert. We are not doing entertainment. We are not just going there to dance… but we are going to… experience,” she said. “They should come in and experience the greater grace.”

Throughout the conversation, Esther returned to the core message of patience and hope. The interviewer summarized the spirit of the song by noting that difficult seasons are temporary. Esther agreed, affirming that listeners should hold on because their turn will come.

With “Great Change” already resonating and the Formed by Grace events on the horizon, Piesie Esther continues to use her platform to point audiences toward gratitude and the possibility of transformation. The new single and its striking visuals underscore a simple yet powerful declaration: no matter the starting point, change is possible when faith remains steady.
