The NPP National Communications Director Aspirant, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says years of involvement across the party’s structures have prepared him for the National Communications role as the party heads into its October 3 elections.

Mr Aboagye, who has been cleared to contest the position and is listed as the sole aspirant on the ballot, points to his experience from student politics through polling station and constituency structures as evidence of his familiarity with the party’s operations. He also served as a Municipal Chief Executive and managed campaign and election day operations at different stages of the party’s electoral history.

Reflecting on his preparation, he explained that his experience has exposed him to both the organisational architecture and political philosophy of the NPP. He argued that effective national communication requires an understanding of the party’s internal structures as well as the concerns of voters.

“I think the party has invested in me for a very long time. I think I have been prepared for this moment by the party itself.”

On the October 3 elections, Mr Aboagye indicated that the national executive polls represent the final stage of the party’s reorganisation process. He noted that the NPP has already conducted elections at polling station, constituency, regional and flagbearership levels.

Directing attention to his intended role, he explained that the communications team would focus on holding the government accountable by tracking the promises contained in its manifesto. According to him, the opposition’s responsibility includes presenting evidence on whether government commitments are being fulfilled.

Referencing criticism about his previous engagement with the party’s grassroots, Mr Aboagye acknowledged the importance of feedback in shaping future communication. He explained that lessons from past experiences would inform the strategy used to reach voters more effectively.

“We are going to command the narrative. As an opposition party, our responsibility is to ensure that we hold the government to account.”

The NPP National Communications Aspirant outlined three principles for his proposed communications approach: facts and data, passion in presenting issues and strategy. He stressed that the party intends to communicate respectfully while using evidence to challenge government policies and decisions.

NPP National Aspirant Questions Economic Gains Amid Rising Living Costs

The NPP National Communications Director Aspirant, Dennis Miracles Aboagye also questioned the government’s economic narrative, arguing that lower inflation and exchange rate pressures should be assessed alongside the costs households face for essential goods and services.

Mr Aboagye argued that headline economic indicators should be considered alongside prices consumers encounter in their daily lives. Referencing the government’s messaging on inflation and the exchange rate, he questioned whether improvements in those indicators automatically translate into lower living costs for ordinary Ghanaians.

Mr Aboagye used fuel prices to illustrate his argument, comparing figures he cited for the previous administration with current prices. He contended that consumers should assess economic performance through its effect on household budgets.

“Dollar is down, inflation is down, but how come I am paying more for fuel today than I was paying when inflation was high and dollar was high?”

Directing attention to electricity and water, the NPP National Communications Aspirant also challenged the increases he cited in utility charges. He referenced the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s use of the exchange rate, inflation, fuel costs and the electricity generation mix in its tariff reviews.

He questioned the value of celebrating lower inflation if households continue to face significant costs for essential services. According to him, economic communication should connect national statistics to the practical experiences of citizens.

On education costs, Mr Aboagye compared university fees and accommodation expenses with figures he attributed to earlier periods. He used those comparisons to argue that lower inflation and exchange rate pressures do not necessarily translate into lower expenses for students and families.

The NPP National Communications Aspirant further argued that the opposition must interrogate the government’s economic claims and examine how policies affect household spending. He indicated that this approach would form part of the communications strategy he intends to pursue in the national position.

“We want to make sure that our position on issues are incontrovertible, that you can’t debate it, and that when we say ‘this is what it is,’ the data speaks for itself.”

Dennis Miracles Aboagye

He urged voters to examine measures alongside lived costs. The argument, he explained, would guide how the NPP presents its assessment of the government’s economic record.
