The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and the Chairman for the Policy Committee of the New Patriotic Party, Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has raised concern over the emerging pattern of arrests involving individuals aligned with the opposition. The Chairman argued that recent enforcement actions suggest an expanding tension between state security operations and political expression.
The MP for Ofoase Ayirebi stated from his view that about 16 activists had initially been arrested, with the figure later rising to 17 over alleged misinformation and social media commentary. According to him, the development follows heightened public debate on the monitoring of digital communications and online speech.
Honourable Nkrumah indicated that the arrests have not been limited to one location but have occurred across different parts of the country. The Politician noted that this pattern has intensified concerns about how far enforcement measures should extend into political expression.

The MP for Ofoase Ayirebi stated that the legal team returned to the High Court after the circuit court refused bail at the initial stage of proceedings. According to him, the application was made under the supervisory jurisdiction of the High Court to review the ruling.
Honourable Nkrumah indicated that the circuit court justified its refusal on the grounds that the accused could commit further offences if released. The Politician questioned the reasoning, stressing that the case had not yet reached a full trial stage for such a conclusion to be drawn.
The Chairman stated that the legal team moved a formal motion seeking bail pending trial. He added that the court was asked to reassess the earlier position and admit the accused to bail under appropriate conditions.

The Attorney General’s Department initially requested additional time to consult investigators on the case. This led to a short adjournment granted by the court to allow further preparation before the matter was heard.
Honourable Nkrumah noted that when proceedings resumed, the state did not file any affidavit opposing the bail application. The MP further indicated that the Deputy Attorney General was present in court during the hearing and engaged in the process.
According to him, the High Court subsequently granted bail after hearing submissions from both sides of the case. He added that the court set conditions which were later reviewed and adjusted during proceedings to ensure compliance.
The Politician stated that administrative procedures delayed the actual release despite the ruling being delivered. He explained that court orders had to be drafted, certified, and served across multiple security agencies before execution could be completed.
Honourable Nkrumah explained that coordination between the police, investigative units, and other agencies contributed to the delay in releasing the accused. He noted that it was nearly 6:00 p.m. before all formal processes were finalised.
The MP added that the accused will now mount a strong legal defence as the matter proceeds at trial stage.
