Norwegian striker Erling Braut Haaland has paid an emotional tribute to outgoing Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after spending four successful years together at the Etihad Stadium, describing the Spaniard as a coach who never stopped demanding more despite years of dominance.
Guardiola signed the 25-year-old striker from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and the move immediately transformed City’s attack as Haaland enjoyed one of the most explosive debut seasons English football has ever witnessed.
The prolific forward played a key role in helping Manchester City secure a historic Treble during his first campaign at the club, including winning the UEFA Champions League title alongside the Premier League and FA Cup.
In his maiden season in England, Haaland scored a record-breaking 36 Premier League goals, surpassing the previous 38-game season record of 32 goals set by Mohamed Salah.

His ruthless finishing and consistency quickly established him as one of the most feared strikers in world football.
The remarkable success enjoyed under Guardiola has now led Haaland to openly eulogize the legendary manager, who recently announced that he will leave Manchester City after a glittering decade in charge that delivered 20 major trophies and changed the culture of the club forever.
Guardiola’s Winning Mentality Changed Everything
When reflecting on his relationship with Guardiola and the standards the Spaniard constantly demanded from his players, Haaland said Guardiola is “a coach who never stopped teaching. It sounds crazy to say this, but you made greatness feel normal.”

The Norwegian international expressed deep gratitude for everything they achieved together and admitted that the Spaniard’s relentless pursuit of improvement transformed both him personally and the club. “Even after hat-tricks, wins and trophies, there was always another lesson, another challenge and another level to reach,” Haaland added. “That mentality changed this club forever and changed me too. The honour of a lifetime to work with the best. Thank you for everything, boss.”
Since arriving in England, the former RB Salzburg striker has developed into the focal point of Manchester City’s attack, scoring an astonishing 168 goals in just 192 appearances for the Cityzens across all competitions.
His prowess in front of goal has also seen him win the Premier League Golden Boot in three of the four seasons he has spent in England, including this season, further underlining his consistency and elite mentality under Guardiola’s guidance.
Haaland’s numbers have continued to rewrite the record books since his arrival in the Premier League. The Norwegian became the fastest player in the league’s history to reach 50 Premier League goals, achieving the feat in only 48 matches, a milestone many top strikers required several seasons and matches to accomplish.
He also shattered another remarkable record in Europe by becoming the fastest player to score 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League. Haaland needed only 49 matches to hit the landmark, once again highlighting his extraordinary goalscoring instincts on the biggest stage not even Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi could match.
Maresca to Take Over From Pep
With Guardiola preparing to leave, Manchester City are expected to begin a new era under a different manager.
Former City assistant coach Enzo Maresca has reportedly emerged as the leading candidate recommended by Guardiola as the club seeks to reclaim the Premier League crown from Arsenal next season.

The departure of Pep Guardiola will undoubtedly mark the end of one of the most successful eras in Manchester City’s history, with Haaland among the many players whose careers have been elevated by the Spaniard’s demanding methods and winning philosophy.
Beyond club football, Haaland is also preparing for another major milestone in his career as he gears up for his first major international tournament with Norway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Norway have been drawn in a difficult group containing France, Senegal and Iraq, with Haaland expected to lead his country’s charge on football’s biggest stage after years of heartbreak in qualification campaigns.
