Ghanaian music heavyweight Joey B is poised to make a triumphant return to the scene with his third major body of work, the 9-track EP titled Sexy Highlife, scheduled for release on June 10, 2026.

The announcement, first broken exclusively by pop culture journalist Ölele Salvador citing sources at DTSIntelAfrica, has sent waves of excitement through Ghana’s music community and the broader Afrobeats diaspora.

For fans who have waited since his 2020 project Lava Feels, this new offering marks a significant milestone. Joey B, born Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin on August 20, 1989, in Cape Coast, has built a reputation as one of Ghana’s most versatile and cerebral artists. Known affectionately as Beezy, he rose to prominence with hits like

“Tonga” featuring Sarkodie, “U x Me,” and “Strawberry Ginger.” His ability to fluidly navigate hip-hop, R&B, hiplife, and highlife has earned him a dedicated following and industry respect.

The Sexy Highlife EP promises a fresh sonic direction while staying true to Joey B’s eclectic roots. According to details shared in the announcement, the project will feature only two confirmed guest appearances: Bosom P Yung and Bisa K’dei.

The lead single, “Akosua Serwaa” featuring Bosom P Yung, is already available and generating buzz with its infectious rhythms and playful energy.

Recent releases have already teased the project’s direction. Tracks like “Exopa” featuring Odunsi, “News at 7,” and “Princess” have made the final cut, bringing the total guest features to three. An editor’s note clarified that “Akosua Broni” featuring Bosom P Yung is not yet released and will drop alongside the full EP.

This curated approach suggests Joey B is intentional about quality and cohesion in what many are calling a “comeback” project.

Joey B’s career trajectory reflects resilience and evolution. Starting music young—he formed a group and began ghostwriting at age six-he attended St. Theresa’s School and Accra High School before graduating from Zenith University College in 2016.

Early collaborations with producers like Lil Shaker, Jayso of Skillions, Hammer of The Last Two, and D-Black helped shape his sound. He later established his own imprint, World Records.

Beyond music, Joey B has made his mark in fashion as the first African brand ambassador for Adidas Ghana in 2015. His influences span global icons like Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Drake, blended with deep Ghanaian highlife and hiplife heritage. He has collaborated with heavyweights including Sarkodie, EL, Fuse ODG, Medikal, and Pappy Kojo, consistently delivering witty lyricism and melodic hooks.

The title Sexy Highlife itself hints at a sultry, groove-heavy exploration of the classic Ghanaian genre. Highlife, with its rich brass, guitar lines, and rhythmic swing, has seen renewed interest in recent years through modern reinterpretations.

Joey B’s history of sampling highlife legends positions him perfectly to lead this fusion, potentially appealing to both nostalgic older audiences and younger listeners discovering the sound through Afrobeats platforms.

Industry watchers note that the six-year gap since Lava Feels (an 8-track project with notable features) allowed Joey B to refine his artistry amid evolving industry trends. Recent singles like “News at 7” showcased his continued command of boom-bap and storytelling, while maintaining melodic appeal.

His participation in global stages, such as the Hennessy Cypher, further underscores his relevance.

Fans Reaction

Fans and commentators have reacted enthusiastically online. Many praise the limited features as a sign of confidence in Joey B’s solo capabilities, while others anticipate how the highlife elements will mesh with his signature “Beezy flow.” Ghanaian music journalist Senason and others called the news ,reflecting widespread anticipation.

The project artwork, featuring a striking black-and-white portrait of Joey B with the title scrawled in elegant script and a Parental Advisory sticker, evokes a classic yet contemporary feel. It signals maturity and sophistication expected from an artist who has matured from breakout star to veteran tastemaker.

As the announcement is expected to be officially confirmed later today, music platforms are already showing Sexy Highlife listings, building further hype. For Ghana’s music industry, which continues to gain global traction, projects like this reinforce the depth beyond viral hits-showcasing artists with longevity, versatility, and cultural rootedness.

Joey B’s return comes at a pivotal time. With Ghanaian sounds influencing international charts, his blend of introspection, party anthems, and now highlife revival could resonate widely.

Fans can expect the full project on major streaming platforms starting June 10. In the meantime, streams of “Akosua Serwaa” and recent singles offer a taste of what’s to come. As one fan succinctly put it amid the excitement: “Beezy.”
