Arsenal have completed the signing of Greece international Christos Tzolis from Belgian champions Club Brugge on a long-term contract, adding one of Europe’s most productive wide forwards to Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new season. The transfer, reported to be worth around £34 million (€40 million), is a record sale for the Belgian Pro League and marks the 24-year-old’s return to English football after an impressive revival in Belgium.

The winger arrives after two outstanding seasons at Club Brugge, where he registered an impressive 43 goals and 45 assists in 108 appearances across all competitions. His influence was central to Brugge’s Belgian Cup triumph in 2025 and their Belgian Pro League title success in the 2025/26 campaign, while he also claimed the league’s Player of the Season award in consecutive years.

Tzolis’ journey has been one of resilience. Having broken through at PAOK in his native Greece, he earned a move to Norwich City in 2021 but struggled to establish himself in the Premier League. Productive loan spells with FC Twente and Fortuna Düsseldorf helped rebuild his confidence before his permanent switch to Club Brugge in 2024, where his career reached new heights.

The forward has also become an established member of the Greek national team, making 34 senior appearances since his debut in October 2020. Comfortable on either flank but most effective from the left, Tzolis is renowned for his direct running, intelligent movement and clinical finishing.

He has already linked up with Arsenal’s squad at the Sobha Realty Training Centre for pre-season and will wear the No. 17 shirt once the remaining regulatory processes surrounding the transfer are completed.

Player Eager for New Challenge

Tzolis expressed his excitement after completing the move, outlining the attacking mindset he hopes to bring to north London. “I’m a direct player, I go for goals or assists,” Tzolis said. “That’s my point of view as an attacker, as a winger. I’m always hungry to score or to give the final pass to my teammates.”

The Greek international added that hard work remains a fundamental part of his game. “I work hard for the team, also in the defensive part.”

Those comments reflect the qualities Arsenal believe will fit seamlessly into Arteta’s high-intensity system, where wide forwards are expected to contribute both offensively and defensively.

Berta Confident Tzolis Will Improve Arsenal

Sporting director Andrea Berta described the signing as another important step in strengthening Arsenal’s attacking options.

“We’re delighted to have completed the signing of Christos Tzolis,” Berta said, explaining that the winger’s versatility allows him to operate across the front line while naturally favouring the left side.

He went on to praise the Greek’s technical qualities, describing him as an excellent finisher with either foot who thrives in tight spaces and consistently delivers goals and assists.

“Christos has produced outstanding numbers over the last three seasons, and he’s a player who will raise the technical level of our squad while bringing positive energy, enthusiasm and a strong mentality to our team. We’re confident Christos will make a significant contribution to our club, and we hope our supporters will enjoy watching him play in an Arsenal shirt.”

The move appears a calculated investment rather than a gamble. Although Tzolis previously found life difficult during his spell at Norwich City, his remarkable development at Club Brugge suggests he has matured considerably as both a player and a decision-maker in the final third. His ability to create as well as score should provide Arsenal with greater depth and tactical flexibility, particularly after his remarkable return of 88 goal contributions in just two seasons.

At 24, Tzolis is entering what are traditionally considered a footballer’s prime years, giving Arsenal the opportunity to benefit immediately while still investing in the future. If he reproduces anything close to the form he displayed in Belgium, the reported £34 million fee could quickly prove to be one of the Premier League champions’ smartest pieces of business this summer.
