The Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has proudly announced the operational commencement of the new terminal at Prempeh I International Airport, Kumasi, scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2024. This significant development marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s aviation sector, underscoring the country’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and positioning itself as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.
In preparation for the transition from the old terminal to the new state-of-the-art facility, GACL, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has meticulously planned a series of subsystem simulations. These will be followed by two full-scale integrated simulations of all processes and systems within the new terminal building.
The simulations are set to take place from June 25, 2024, to June 30, 2024. These exercises aim to ensure that all systems, equipment, and personnel are thoroughly prepared to operate efficiently and effectively, minimizing any potential risks associated with the transfer of operations.
“In line with the operationalization process, there will be three (3) live flights from the new terminal building from the 28th to the 30th of June 2024.
“Ghana Airports Company Limited has subsequently advised Africa World Airlines and Passion Air to inform passengers who are scheduled to travel on the selected dates to be mindful of this arrangement.”

The new terminal building has the ability to process 200 passengers per hour, handle 800,000 passengers annually, have two passenger boarding bridges, three (3) other lounges, a large commercial retail area, currency declaration office, forex bureau, nine (9) check-in desks, sixteen (16) immigration booths, automated parking, a multipurpose faith room, a designated area for unaccompanied minors, modern baggage handling systems, and a medical facility, among other features.
The opening of the new terminal aligns with GACL’s strategic vision to provide world-class airport facilities and services. This initiative is part of a broader goal to establish Ghana as the preferred aviation hub and leader in the airport business within West Africa.
