President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that Ghana possesses all the ingredients needed to achieve sustainable national development, urging citizens and institutions to work together in building an economically resilient, socially inclusive, and democratically accountable nation.
Delivering the closing remarks at the 4th Annual Convening of the Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026, the President called for renewed collaboration among government, civil society, development partners, and the private sector to advance democratic consolidation and inclusive development.
“I conclude, let’s remember that every generation is presented with a defining responsibility. Our responsibility is to build a Ghana that is economically resilient, socially inclusive, and democratically accountable and capable of financing its own future”.

Future Generations Will Judge Today’s Decisions
President Mahama stressed that history would judge the present generation not by the difficulties it inherited but by the actions it took to overcome them.
He said future generations would assess today’s leaders and citizens based on the quality of the institutions they strengthened, the opportunities they created, and the partnerships they established to improve national development.
“Future generations will not judge us by the challenges we inherited, but the solutions we implemented. They will judge us by the institutions we strengthened, the opportunities we created, and the partnerships we forged”.

The President noted that the country’s long-term progress depends on bold decisions and sustained cooperation across all sectors of society.
He encouraged participants at the forum to focus on practical solutions that would strengthen governance, promote economic resilience, and expand opportunities for all Ghanaians.
Ghana Has Strong Foundations
President Mahama expressed optimism about Ghana’s future, saying the country already possesses the key assets required for success.
He pointed to the resilience of the Ghanaian people, the strength of civil society, the dynamism of the private sector, the capacity of national institutions, and the country’s enduring democratic tradition as major national advantages.
According to the President, these strengths provide a solid foundation for sustainable development. However, he emphasised that achieving national aspirations will require stronger collaboration, deeper trust, and a shared commitment to the country’s future.
“What we require now is greater collaboration, greater trust and a sense of shared national purpose,” he added.
Call for Stronger Partnerships
President Mahama urged stakeholders to move beyond the traditional divisions that have sometimes separated government, civil society organisations, development partners, and the private sector.
He said Ghana’s development agenda would benefit from stronger partnerships built on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and a common vision for national progress.

The President maintained that closer cooperation among key national actors would create a stronger framework for addressing development challenges while promoting inclusive economic growth and democratic accountability.
He also underscored the importance of citizen participation in national development, saying every Ghanaian should have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
Vision for an Inclusive Ghana
President Mahama outlined a vision of a country where civic participation is encouraged, development initiatives are locally owned, and opportunities are shared broadly across society.
He said such an approach would empower citizens, strengthen democratic governance, and create a more resilient and sustainable development model.
The President expressed confidence that by working together, Ghanaians can build a nation that is more inclusive, accountable, and capable of delivering sustainable development for future generations.
President Mahama concluded by expressing appreciation to the organisers of the 4th Annual Convening of the Ghana Civil Society Forum, describing the gathering as an important platform for dialogue and national reflection.
He said he looked forward to the recommendations that would emerge from the deliberations, expressing optimism that they would contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic and development agenda.
The President also commended the Star Ghana Foundation and its partners for organising the forum and creating an opportunity for stakeholders from different sectors to exchange ideas on governance, democracy, and national development.
He urged government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners to deepen collaboration, build greater trust, and pursue a shared national purpose.
According to him, by encouraging civic participation, strengthening partnerships, and creating opportunities for all citizens, Ghana can build a more resilient, inclusive, accountable, and sustainable future that will earn the confidence of generations to come.
