Stevie Wonder is hitting the road this fall to celebrate one of the landmark achievements of his extraordinary career. The 25-time Grammy Award winner announced a series of concerts performing his 1976 masterpiece Songs in the Key of Life in its entirety, marking the album’s 50th anniversary.

The tour, officially titled Songs in the Key of Life Performances; 50th Anniversary Tour, begins October 13 at Utilita Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and concludes December 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. It spans 18 shows across Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Produced by Wonder Productions and promoted by Live Nation, the outing will feature the full double album each night.

Released in September 1976, Songs in the Key of Life stands as one of the most ambitious and acclaimed works in popular music. The album earned Wonder his third Grammy for Album of the Year and has been certified diamond for sales exceeding 10 million copies in the United States.

It was later inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. Its track list includes enduring classics such as “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” “As,” “Love’s in Need of Love Today,” and “Pastime Paradise.” The nearly 90-minute double LP, originally accompanied by a bonus EP of additional songs, showcased Wonder’s mastery of soul, funk, jazz, and social commentary at the height of his creative powers.

Wonder, who turned 76 earlier this year, has long regarded the album as a high point. He previously performed it in full during a successful 2014-2015 tour that drew large crowds and critical praise. This new run marks his first major tour since a shorter 2024 outing focused on themes of national healing.

In the intervening years he has limited himself largely to special appearances, including tributes at the Grammys and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The European leg opens in Birmingham and continues with stops in Paris (Accor Arena, October 15), Copenhagen (Royal Arena, October 18), Oslo (Unity Arena, October 20), Stockholm (3Arena, October 22), Hannover (ZAG-Arena, October 24), Cologne (Lanxess Arena, October 26), Amsterdam (Ziggo Dome, October 28), and Dublin (3Arena, November 1). The UK portion resumes with shows at London’s O2 (November 3), Manchester’s Co-op Live (November 8), and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro (November 11).

Wonder then crosses the Atlantic for a brief North American run. It begins November 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York, followed by the United Center in Chicago on November 21 and Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on November 23.

A special homecoming comes next: two nights at Detroit’s historic Fox Theatre on December 8 and 9. The tour wraps with a final performance December 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

The Detroit dates hold particular significance. Wonder was born in Saginaw, Michigan, and rose to fame as a child prodigy at Motown Records in Detroit. Returning to the intimate Fox Theatre after larger arena appearances in recent years offers fans a more personal setting in the city that shaped him.

Tickets for the Detroit shows go on sale September 15 at 10 a.m. local time. Most other U.S. dates go on sale September 10 at the same hour, with local presales already underway in various markets.

Live Nation described the tour in a statement as a celebration of an album whose messages of connection, healing, and joy remain urgent. “At a time when the world continues to search for connection, healing and joy, the messages at the heart of Songs in the Key of Life feel as urgent and necessary today as they did in 1976,” the promoter said.

Wonder has spoken often about the album’s enduring relevance. In past interviews he has emphasized its call for love, unity, and awareness of social issues-themes that resonated in the mid-1970s and continue to speak to contemporary audiences. Performing the full work requires stamina and precision.

The original record features complex arrangements, lush instrumentation, and a wide emotional range, from the joyful bounce of “Sir Duke” to the reflective depth of “As” and the pointed social observation of “Village Ghetto Land.”

Public Reaction

Fans on social media reacted quickly to the announcement, with many expressing excitement mixed with determination to secure tickets. Some recalled previous full-album performances, noting Wonder’s ability to deliver lengthy, high-energy shows that still leave parts of his vast catalog unexplored.

Others highlighted the rarity of hearing the complete double album live in sequence.

The tour arrives as Wonder continues to occupy a unique place in American music. Blind since shortly after birth, he signed with Motown as a child and evolved from a young sensation into one of the most innovative songwriters and multi-instrumentalists of his generation.

Songs in the Key of Life capped a remarkable run of albums in the early and mid-1970s-Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness’ First Finale that redefined what popular music could achieve artistically and commercially.

For now, the schedule offers fans across Europe and selected U.S. cities a rare opportunity to experience one of the definitive albums of the 20th century performed by its creator. Tickets are expected to be in high demand. Details on additional presales and exact on-sale times for international markets are available through local promoters and Ticketmaster.

As Wonder prepares to take the stage this fall, the tour serves as both a retrospective and a reaffirmation. Half a century after Songs in the Key of Life first arrived, its creator is once again inviting audiences to hear the music that helped define an era and that still speaks powerfully today.
