Popular broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere has revealed how she became friends with iconic Highlife singer Daddy Lumba (DL).
According to her, she grew up seeing her parents listen to Daddy Lumba more often, stating her father especially.
Serwaa Amihere mentioned that she spent a lot of time with her father, “So I heard a lot of the Daddy Lumba songs,” she added.
“But growing up, I also realized I enjoyed that kind of music more than the [modern sounds] Trap kinda music, the rap songs – those are not my style but [I like] the Highlife. I don’t just listen to Daddy Lumba, [however]. I listen to Dada KD, Kojo Antwi, AB Crenstil. I listen to all of them. That’s my [favorite] genre of music.”

Serwaa came to why she thinks Daddy Lumba towers above many Highlife greats.
“I just found that Daddy Lumba has a song for everything. Kojo Antwi does a lot of love songs. But Daddy Lumba has music for rivalry, a broken heart, and funerals – he has everything you can think of. I listen to Amakye Dede, too, but he also does a lot of funeral and love songs only. Daddy Lumba has everything.”

The GHOne TV star added she simply had an inexplicable “love for Daddy Lumba”.
She revealed how they became friends, noting it was common knowledge in her circles she loved Daddy Lumba and “so one day, someone surprised me with a phone call to Daddy Lumba”.
“When I spoke to him, he told me he watches me every morning. Imagine how that made me feel. That the one I admire also admires me. Then we met and… I went to his house. He was so happy to see me and was equally happy to see him.
“We were just happy to see each other because, after the phone call, we spoke for a very long time before we eventually met. I went to see him on his birthday, after speaking for about six or eight months, and so we had the connection already. And you know his wife is called Serwaa – he loves people called Serwaa. And he knows I love his music and I keep talking about him.”

The broadcast journalist said that she wants to host former President Nana Akufo-Addo next on her TV show after sitting down with many a public figure.
“Certainly, I think he has a lot of questions to answer. I think he needs to tell us a lot of things. I want to have a conversation with him because, you know, I’ve hosted President Mahama before.
“I haven’t hosted the [immediate] former Vice President [Mahamudu Bawumia] before but I want to speak with Nana Addo.”
Serwaa Amihere
The GHOne TV star recalled she had once asked “Nana Addo two questions” at his “meet the press” when he first became president in 2017. Since then, however, she has not had another opportunity.
She refrained from citing questions she was interested in asking the former head of state. For entertainment, she said she had hosted the biggest names except rap heavyweight Sarkodie.
Serwaa Amihere joked she had not yet hosted Kojo Antwi, too, because “you know I am a Daddy Lumba girl”.
Ms. Amihere said she frequently listened to Kojo Antwi and she loved him “but I don’t think there’s anyone like Daddy Lumba”.
Serwaa Amihere on Responds To Trolls

The Broadcast journalist noted that “it’s a personal policy” not to respond to trolls on social media.
“I really think unhappy people troll people. When you’re busy, fulfilled, and you’re happy, I don’t see how you’ll put a camera in front of you just to talk about some other person and what is happening in their life. I find it so cruel but then it looks like that’s how some people are.”

The TV personality advocated “everybody taking my position” and not responding to internet bullies.
She noted on social media, she does not make it a habit to read comments.
“When I post something, I post it then I go. Once in a while, I go through the comments and respond to the positive ones.”
Serwaa Amihere
Noting her repentance, she recounted times past when she found herself riled up and responding to trolls in equal measure.
“I’ve met a couple of people on social media who have said things about me who can’t even say hello to me in real life. Do you think it’s worth it to engage such people? No, I won’t do that.”
Serwaa Amihere
She emphasized trolls “are cowards”.
She underlined the cunning and hypocrisy of trolls, also, when she cited an instance when someone enthusiastically requested video selfies with her at an event, only for Serwaa’s friend to point out thereafter this individual was, in fact, fond of insulting her on social media.
“That’s it. They are keyboard warriors. That’s where it ends. So you won’t get me. Take a phone and explain myself. No.”
Serwaa Amihere
Furthermore, according to her, she had long stopped crying over cyberbullies.
She said the insults online used to disturb her mother, which caused her much grief, but “now she encourages me not to pay attention to the trolls”.
For those who defend her honor on social media, GHOne star smiled and said, “I can’t tell them to stop.”
“To the people who do. I love them back. I really appreciate people standing up for me especially in public and on social media.
“Sometimes I wish I had followed certain people back on social media because I have seen the things they’ve written about me on other people’s platforms. It’s very heartwarming.”
