Ghanaian afrobeats singer, Gyakie, says how long a song will last on the charts does not depend on TikTok’s influence.
According to her, the longevity of a song depends on the song and not dance trends on social media.
Giving an example to buttress her point, she noted that although Kelvyn Boy’s Down Flat became a hit through dance routines on social media, however, the song is still being enjoyed by most people.
“I think the longevity of a song depends on the song. It’s not really about TikTok. People still dance to Kelvyn Boy’s Down Flat even though it’s been a while since it was released. It came with a dance routine on TikTok too. So, as I said, it depends on the song”.
Gyakie
Gyakie also emphasized how TikTok actually helped her song, ‘Forever’, to get a bigger market. According to the musician, she was using the traditional methods to promote her song but “TikTok did the magic by reaching the international market”.

The singer’s comments come at a time when there have been complaints that the social media site is killing the longevity of songs. It can be recalled that Ghanaian music producer, Wei Y3 Oteng, was one of the people who lamented the situation in a post on Facebook.
The producer, who is also the manager of rapper, Obrafour, wrote that he was expecting songs like ‘Down Flat’ and ‘Kwaku The Traveller’ to by now be uncontrollable. However, he pointed out that the dance moves by Kizz Daniel’s BUGA have pushed those songs away.
Although, he acknowledged the relevance of the platform, Wei Y3 Oteng, said it “can’t beat the organic radio and TV promo with TikTok”.
Gyakie replies Blakk Rasta
Gyakie, also replied to certain claims made by veteran singer, Blakk Rasta. Gyakie noted that she completely disagrees with Blakk Rasta’s assertion that her career is declining.

According to her, most people expect artists to consistently produce songs that will be as successful as their most popular songs. As such, when this expectation is not met then they assume the artist is not good. She added, “I don’t think I am buried as Blakk Rasta thinks”.
“People have set their minds to a certain target where {they} think if you are not able to do better with your current song as you did with your previous hit, it means you are not good enough”.
Gyakie
Gyakie further speaking indicated that she is not under any pressure to release a song that will perform better than her viral song ‘Forever’.
Meanwhile, Gyakie’s first official single of 2022, ‘Something’, is out now and available on all digital platforms. The song was produced by Prime Beatz. ‘Something’ is a smooth Afrobeats fusion with enough bop to turn into a jam. The rhythm in the production is similar to that of the popular Ghanaian jama songs and if there’s anything the song is going to do, it will be relatable to anyone who listens to it.
Gyakie who is signed to Flip The Music, has made an impact in the music space in Africa with her music, scoring a deal with Sony Music Entertainment West Africa/ RCA UK and Epic US and working on songs with big names such as Diplo, Serge Ibaka, the Major League DJz and more. She also continues in her strife to thrill her fans with good music.
