The director of legal affairs of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba, has suggested that the President must address the nation on the economic challenges facing the country.
He added that Just as Akuffo Addo did during the Covid period, he must do same at the moment, as Ghanaians are saddled with rising cost of living
“What I expect the government to do is for the President to address the nation because this is more or less like war against the people of this country”

He noted that even though the President and the Finance Minister are hopeful of the IMF coming to bail the country, the President must come out to talk to Ghanaians.
Speaking on the ‘New Day’ show on Friday October 21, Mr Amaliba indicated that the country is in a very difficult situation it has never seen this before.
“When there was Covid he was always in our homes when we didn’t need him; this is the time for him to address Ghanaians.”

Mr Amaliba further asked the President to desist from generalizing the economic crises, emphazing on the fact that President keeps comparing the economic crises of the counrty to that of other countries.
He mentioned that the President was elected to solve problems and therefore should do that without any form of complain or referance.
“His attempt to globalize their bad governance is my problem; the attempt to look into the face of Ghanaians to tell them it is happening everywhere in the world for me is my problem, he should stop saying that”.
” He was elected to come and solve problems and it is not a walk in a park.”

Mr Abraham Amaliba further stated that the cedi is the most disgraceful currency in the world today as it keeps depreciating as the day goes by.

Sacking of Finance Minister
Mr Abraham Amaliba during the interview stated that, he doesn’t know the convenant between the President and the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta which is preventing the President from dismissing him.
He further mentioned that, there are clear signs of the bad performance of the Minister which includes his inability to appreciate the local currency against the US dollar as well as bettering the country’s economy which in total is making things difficult for Ghanaians.
“I simply don’t know the convenant between Akuffo Addo and the Finance Minister such that he has seen all the building blocks falling, yet has still decided to maintain him at his post.”
Abraham Amaliba
He added that there is no dollars in the country at the moment as various banks in the country do not have dollars in their banks.
The government has admitted that times are hard for Ghanaians and measures are being taken to ameliorate their plight.
However government is seeking support from the International Monetary Fund(IMF) to help it deal with the situation.
