Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has assured Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the complete support of Manhyia South delegates in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Special Electoral College elections and the National Delegates Congress.
Dr. Prempeh sought for support for the Vice President during a meeting of NPP delegates in the constituency with Dr. Bawumia at the Ash Town Apostolic Church. He said the Vice President’s sterling qualities, experience, fierce loyalty, and sacrifices for the party make him the best candidate for the party going into the 2024 elections.
As stated by the Energy Minister, Dr. Bawumia is the only person who can bring together all facets of Ghanaian society and all religious backgrounds, making him the only person who can help the party achieve its goal of winning a third term electoral victory, or “breaking the 8” as it is known in NPP parlance.
“The Vice President has served well as Vice President, defending the programmes and policies of our government and remains the only existential threat to the electoral fortunes of John Mahama and the NDC, of all the candidates vying for the flagbearership slot.”

Dr. Prempeh further assured that, as his grandfather, the Otumfuo Asantehene has publicly professed that Dr. Bawumia is his son, it only meant that, Dr. Bawumia was his father and therefore he cannot support any other person than his father in a contest.
For the next 11 days, the Vice President will be in the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s stronghold, where he will be addressing delegates in 47 constituencies about why they should select him over the other nine candidates running for the party’s flagbearership.
The other nine are: former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey, a former Minister of Food and Agric, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former General Secretary of NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former MP for Offinso North, Dr. Kofi Konada Apraku, a former Energy, Minister, Boakye Agyarko, Kojo Opoku and former MP for Mampong constituency, Francis Addai-Nimoh.
Bawumia Sacrificed Political Career For NPP Amidst Excuses
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claimed he has made sufficient sacrifices for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be given the chance to be in charge of the party in the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia stated that he was always willing to make a sacrifice for the party, when his rivals made excuses whenever the party needed a witness for the petition for the general election of 2012.
Moreover, he made mention of his political career being on the line when he acted as a witness for the party and also emphasized the numerous sacrifices he has made over the years for the party.
“Most of our members were giving excuses when the party was in need of a witness for the 2012 general election petition at the Supreme Court. I sacrificed my political career for the party, knowing very well the implications ahead if I don’t deliver well in court.
“The excuses were many, some claimed they were travelling and all that because they were scared to put their political career on the line, but I stood my ground. I’m the best person to lead the party.”
