Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that government measures instituted have contributed to the stability of the economy.
According to him, some great initiatives taken by government has led to the decrease in inflation and the reduction in prices of goods and services. These, he noted, are clear indicators of the government’s dedication to reviving the country’s economy.
Addressing attendees at a National Thanksgiving service held at the NPP Headquarters in Accra, today, December 22, 2023, Dr Bawumia expressed optimism about the economic trajectory.
“… What is remarkable is that prices of items that we normally buy are falling, cement prices are falling, fuel prices have fallen, cooking oil prices are falling, iron rod prices, rice prices are falling, maize prices are falling, and this is telling us that something is happening because normally we see increases but we are seeing a decline in pricing.”

In spite of the challenges experienced in the country by way of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Bawumia highlighted Ghana’s resilience amid the economic and social shocks of the pandemic.
He underscored that there is the need for concerted efforts to alleviate the burdens of 2023, lauding the progress made with gratitude to God.
“We are already aware that the post-Covid-19 era remains a difficult era in the history of the world and many countries across the globe are still recovering from the economic and social shock the pandemic created, Ghana has been no exception. As a party in power at such a difficult period in our global history, we can only thank God almighty for how far he has brought us.
“We have to work extra hard to lessen the burden that crossed 2023 with us. We started the year with an inflation rate of 56. 3 percent in January. As we speak the rate for November is 26.4 per cent. A significant drop and when you look at inflation, it has come down.

Performance of WASSCE students in the country
Meanwhile, the NPP flagbearer has questioned why some people always believe that it is impossible for Ghanaian students to be the best in what they do.
He reckoned that for political reasons, some have decided to question the integrity of the results of the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) in which the candidates performed so well.
“Our SHS students go from Keta SHS to Harvard University and excel. Our girls at Mamfe Senior High go for a world competition in robotics and win against teams from the USA, Germany and South Korea. Our boys from Prempeh College have won robotics world competitions against global competitors many times. Yet when these same students excel at WASSCE some people for political reasons even question the integrity of their results!”

With the seeming lack of faith in the performance of WASSCE student, Dr Bawumia questioned why some always believe that it is impossible for these students to be the best. To this end, he emphasized that it is possible.
” Congratulations to WASSCE students for their excellent performance in the examination…”
