The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has paid tribute to the late former President John Evans Atta Mills in commemoration of the twelfth anniversary of his departure.
In a touching message, the chief scribe of the opposition party underscored the enduring impact of late former President John Evans Atta Mills’s ethical and principled leadership.
“Today, we honor the memory of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, a man of unmatched nobility and integrity, who left us on July 24th, 2012. Twelve years on, his legacy remains a guiding light for a better Ghana”.

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress,commenting on the heightened political discontent, particularly among the youth in the country, expressed disappointment over the disillusionment, contrasting the current administration’s track record with the exemplary leadership of Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
Mr Kwetey, in his critique of the current government, urged the Ghanaian youth disenchanted with today’s political leadership, to remember that the corruption, mismanagement, and poor governance the country is grappling with under the New Patriotic Party administration are not the standards.
Professor Mills’ Ethical Governance
Highlighting the profound differences in leadership styles, Mr Kwetey lauded the late former President, Professor John Atta Mills’ tenure as a beacon of ethical governance.
“Prof. Mills exemplified ethical, credible, and principled leadership, serving with humility, peace, and selfless dedication to national unity”, he noted.
This sentiment, he indicated is echoed widely, with many across the political spectrum recognizing Professor Mills’ unwavering commitment to the country’s welfare over personal or political gain.
Reflecting on Professor John Evans Atta Mills’ presidency, the former Deputy Minister of Finance under Professor Milles’s administration, pointed out that the late former President’s tenure was a testament to what is possible when leaders prioritize the country’s welfare over personal gain.
He recalled the late former President’s dedication to serving the people of Ghana with honesty and humility, qualities, he noted, that have become increasingly rare in Ghanaian politics today.
According to him, Professor Mills’ leadership was characterized by a relentless focus on national unity and development, which earned him admiration both domestically and internationally.
Mr Kwetey’s statement is not only a tribute but also a call to action for the future. He urged Ghanaians, particularly the younger generation, to draw inspiration from Professor John Atta Mills’ legacy.
“As we look towards the future, let us draw inspiration from Prof. Mills’ example. On December 7th, we hope for a return to the values he embodied. This is a call to the younger generation: believe in the possibility of ethical leadership. It is possible, and Prof. Mills proved it”.
