The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during his meeting with Regional Religious Leaders on Monday 29th April 2024, emphasized the need for peace as the country prepares for the December 7th Polls.
He charged the Clergy to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections, emphasizing that the Clergy has the responsibility to teach its followers the difference between good and bad.
He noted that God has blessed Ghana in every facet of its religious composition as his recent visit to the Vatican revealed to him that the religious tolerance in Ghana is admired by many others outside the country’s borders.
“In fact, this coupled with the natural Ghanaian appetite for peace, is the cornerstone of the stability and peace we enjoy currently. We have every duty and responsibility to guard this zealously for now and the future. It behoves on us, therefore, that everything we do must be geared toward fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence”.

Furthermore, the NPP flagbearer noted that though every individual may have differences in terms of one’s background, religion, ethnicity, and political affiliation among others, Ghanaians must ensure that their differences do not create division among them.
He also admitted that the conduct of politics in Ghana gives the impression that Ghanaians are not united. He, however, urged Ghanaians to be mindful of the fact that the country and the citizens come first before any political ambition.
“And for that matter, NPP and NDC came to meet us as Ghanaians. We will still be Ghanaians and as politicians, we will go but the country Ghana, will still be Ghana”. – Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Moreover, the NPP flagbearer indicated that maintaining the peace that the country presently enjoys implies that Ghanaians make good decisions and judgments on leaders.
He stressed that this judgment must be based on track records and visions of persons vying for leadership positions rather than ethnicity, gender, and religion.
He urged Ghanaians to treat everyone as equals in their selection of leaders and also recognize that God has a purpose for each individual and “can use any one of us to cause a change in the lives of his people”.
Ghanaians Urged To Elect Good Leaders
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia further advised Ghanaians to elect leaders who have the dignity and integrity to lead.
He also entreated Ghanaians to give him a chance to rule as President, arguing that his accomplishments as a person and his work at the Bank of Ghana and as Vice President make him the viable option.

“I am in public life and politics to serve because I believe to lead is to serve. Distinguished Clergy, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have an election in December 2024 and I am one of two major candidates. I want to give you the reasons why you should support me to be President of the Republic of Ghana”.

Accordingly, the NPP flagbearer noted that the incumbent NPP government has performed better in every sector than its main opponent the NDC, asserting why he (Bawumia) is the best choice for Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia also stated that his performance as Vice President is superior to the performance of his main opponent, John Mahama, as Vice President.
As such, Dr. Bawumia argued that during the seven years of the NPP in government, the government has created 2.1 million jobs; 975,000 in the private sector, and 1.2 million in the public sector. “The data says so. I believe in data and I work with data”, he added.
Moreover, the NPP flagbearer indicated that he has a compelling vision for the people of Ghana which is why Ghanaians should make him President through the December elections.
He stated that he has a superior record in the fight against corruption as opposed to his major contender, John Mahama, and pledged to ensure accountability and transparency in governance if voted for as President.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the incumbent government has implemented transformational policies like the remarkable digitalization drive and Free SHS which have great impacts on the country’s development.
