Popular Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Michael Obeng, known for his heroic removal of ‘Gorilla glue’ from Ms. Tessica Brown has debunked rumors of being arrested in Ghana last week.
Speaking on the issue, Dr. Obeng averred that the incident which happened was more of an extortion than an arrest.
“I don’t even know if this was an arrest, it is very unfortunate and this is the stupidity we have had to deal with.”

This comes on the back of some reports purporting that he was arrested for soliciting for consultation in cosmetic surgery and practicing without license while in Ghana contrary to the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act 2013 (Act 857).
Narrating his ordeal, he revealed that, the incident which happened was likely to be a set up since the Ghana Medical and Dental Association has denied its involvement in the confrontation.
“Two weeks ago, when I was in Ghana, my [foreign] office said the people that know that I am in Ghana had called the office and had paid consultation fees and if I can see them. And I said when I come to Ghana, I don’t come to see patients.
“But instead of doing a Skype or Zoom consultation, I said if I am here I will see them. So, my office put up a social media post that everybody who wants to see me should make sure to pay their money to my foreign office account.”

A patient caused the ‘mess’
He further narrated that, he consulted three patients. However, he said one gentleman amongst the three called and begged his office that he didn’t have a credit card and was directed to pay upon arrival to his security man. He stated that after attending to the patient, he left and returned and started what he described as ‘a mess’.
“An hour later my security guy calls me that the gentleman who came in says he has got another question, that is when he came back and said they are from the Medical and Dental Council and Police CID and you are practicing without license’. I don’t think the guys came from MDC, they came for extortion, it is very sad.”

Dr Obeng alleged that what happened was orchestrated by supposed officials from the Medical and Dental Council because further investigations revealed that they were not contracted by the Council. He further stated that he only does consultation when in the country and does not practice without license.
Lawyers to take action against officials
Dr. Obeng has stated that he has instructed his lawyers both in Ghana and Los Angeles to investigate the matter at hand and ensure that action is taken against those intending to tarnish his hard-earned reputation.
He then admonished the media houses who published the false news to retract and apologize immediately.
On the sideline, he revealed that upon his arrival he was invited to join the team of medical surgeon who will be separating the cojoined twins which he has gladly accepted. He averred that improving health care around the sub-region has been his passion and long-time mission and together with his team, they have been performing free surgery to save lives.
