Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Flagbearer, has claimed he would run the economy better than any of the other contenders.
He said that because he founded companies that hire more than 7000 people every month, he is in a position to help lower the nation’s unemployment rate.
“With my Steel Plant, I am employing thousands of workers in this country by the next few months. I have the biggest Cold Store in the whole of Africa…As for you, the government pays you, pays your house girls, pays your security and you are living in government bungalows.
“But I pay 7,158 workers every month in this country. So between the two of us, who is the strategist? This is internal politics and so we shouldn’t be dirty but if they attack me, I will reply.”

In addition, he chastised the administration for mismanaging the local currency. He claimed that as of March 2022, he had $40 million in Cedi equivalent, but as a result of the Cedi’s depreciation by August of the same year, the value had fallen to $16 million.
The bad performance of the Cedi versus the main trade currencies, especially the Dollar, is typically attributed to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the head of the economic management team and a potential NPP candidate. However, Mr. Agyapong did not specifically name him.
“We will have troubles if we don’t do a clean campaign because I will reply to every claim made against me. You call yourself a strategist but when we were taking over power, the Dollar was 4 Cedis. Today one Dollar is Twelve Cedis and yet you call yourself a strategist.”

Delegates Advised To Be Wise
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, during his campaign trip at Kintampo East on Sunday, July 16, advised the NPP delegates to be “wise“.
During his listening tour in the constituency, the politician claimed that party delegates have been going hungry and malnourished for many years. However, the lawmaker revealed the party delegates that other candidates are willing to pay for votes, since they are aware that the base has been malnourished and is easily bribed.
“They know they didn’t take care of you that’s why they are buying your votes cheap. As for me, my works speak for me, I have been always fighting and speaking for you. Me, I was the one fighting for your polling station and Constituency executives. I have been speaking for you but they don’t listen. I have seen that sometimes talking doesn’t go far, so I want you to give me the steer to drive the party.
“I promise you when you vote for me, I will beat Mahama hands down. You the grassroots are suffering. Police you didn’t get, customs you didn’t get, immigration you didn’t get, soldier came you didn’t get, teaching you didn’t get…Local government you didn’t get… I am here to fight for you!”
