The Executives of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has intimated that, their flagbearer and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has not declared her intentions to withdraw from the presidential race as initially purported by the general public.
In a news conference held in Accra today, 23rd November, 2020 by the NDP, the party revealed that their flagbearer had not declared yet her intention and further noted that, a meeting is yet to be held with her with regards to her stance on the matter.
“Ladies and gentlemen, with the passing of President Rawlings, our party and sympathizers, have been asking the executives of our party, whether the presidential candidate, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has the strength to continue as the flagbearer considering the state of distress.
“We the executives, in keeping with tradition have not broached this discussion with her as we know she needs time and space to grieve and it would have been insensitive to open this topic. We Intend to meet with her before the end of this week to have this conversation with her and we will inform our members, supporters and the general public of the outcome in due course.”
The spokesperson for the party further mentioned that, it is their wish that, their flagbearer will regain the strength to lead their beloved party adding that, campaign activities for the country is still ongoing.
“We would like to inform the general public that, our campaign is still ongoing and our parliamentary candidates are out there still canvasing for votes and our regional and constituency executives, as well as supporters and sympathizers, are still campaigning and should remain resolute.”
He further noted that, now more than ever, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, needs everyone’s support adding that, the NPD will commensurate with their leader and the entire Rawlings family and assure them of their unflinching support in these difficult moments.
He also noted that, their party structures across the country will fully participate in national events to be outlined in celebration of the great man, Jerry John Rawlings
Touching on the death and unfolding events of the Late President, he revealed that, some curious events, have come to their attention in the past few days, to show clearly that there are attempts by some elements, to desecrate, the legacy and the name of President Rawlings even in his demise.
He further went on to say that, these acts are being perpetrated by people who have constantly showed the desire, to humiliate John Jerry Rawlings and his family even when he was alive.
Speaking on the upcoming elections, the party posited that, they were confident of the National Democratic Party’s (NDC’s) loss and called on all to join the NDP, to help work together and as well honor what the Late President, J.J Rawlings believed in come December 7.
He then assured that, the NDP will return with feedback as to what transpires at the meeting with their flagbearer with regards to her presidential race in the upcoming elections.
