A member of the NDC legal team, Edudzie Tamakloe, has expressed his disappointment at the conduct of the ministry calling it out for counteracting to its mantra.

“I have followed what has happened in Garu and I am disappointed by the statement of the national security ministry. I am completely disappointed. [It is a] completely disappointing statement. Being that they claim the national security that some of their personnel who were on a counterterrorism assignment, the people in Garu, consistent with the ministry’s call; see something, say something!
“Is that what it is? That is what the minister says. The ministry itself has advised Ghanaians, that when we see something unusual we should say something. That is the ministry’s claim. So the people saw a car, they didn’t know who they were and what have you. Eventually, we are being told that even when the people approached them, they managed to a police station.”

He expressed his surprise at the ministry’s disappointing performance.
“Sometimes you believe that with the vast experience that persons like the honorable Kan Dapaah have with politics in Ghana and its associated matters, the response of the military and personnel associated with his ministry will reflect a certain level of growth and maturity.
“You told us that, when we see something, we should say something. The situation was a bit suspicious which is why the people reacted the way they did.”

Underscoring that none of the national security personnel were hurt, he continued to express his surprise at the incident.
“Hence the records as we speak, show that no national security personnel was manhandled or physically touched; even from their narration.
I had a look at the video, the pictures we are seeing, and the extent to which innocent persons have been brutally assaulted. The ministry under Mr. Kan Dapaah states to justify brutalizing innocent Ghanaians.”

“Mr Kan-Dapaah, this is a low, completely low, Honorable!”, he exclaimed.
President Accused For Allegedly ‘Fostering Military Excesses’
Hence, Mr. Edudzie Tamakloe condemned the involvement of soldiers in such issues and blamed the president for the recurrence of such events.
“For me, the involvement of the military in policing has not been the best. The moment Mr. Akufo-addo became president, a few things happened that we have always spoken about. But it appears anytime we do, it falls on deaf ears. Look you recall, there was a senior police officer who was brutally assaulted by a person who today, the records will tell you has been further promoted by Mr. Akufo Addo within the security sector.

“It has not ended there. We saw how, for the first time, in the history of this country, soldiers under the command of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, stormed parliament. To date, we don’t know who gave that command. Do you know that if the speaker of parliament, pushed men or soldiers to go to the jubilee house because the speaker perceived chaos at the jubilee how that will amount to treason? But Akuffo Addo has done that quietly.”

Mr. Tamakloe emphasized that building Ghana’s democracy requires the cooperation of both the military and civilians.
