The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Functional Executive Committee (FEC) has annulled the Central Regional wing of the party’s decision to withdraw Nurudeen Shaibu Migyimah as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Assin Central Constituency in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The opposition party’s General Secretary, Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey in a statement indicated that the decision was made during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, following a controversial letter from the Central Region NDC Secretariat.
“At its meeting held on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, the Functional Executive Committee considered the letter originating from the Secretary of the Central Region NDC purporting to withdraw the party’s candidate for the Assin Central Constituency for the 2024 general elections and refer his alleged immoral conduct to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further action.
“The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC carefully examined the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawal of the Parliamentary Candidate’s participation in the upcoming elections, in the presence of the Regional Chairman, the Regional Secretary, the Regional Organizer, and other party officers from the Central Region, and took the following decisions”
Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary , NDC
Decisions Taken by the FEC
Mr Kwetey, in his statement, noted that after a thorough examination of the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawal, the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress arrived at several critical decisions, including the suspension of the party’s regional Chairman Prof. Richard Asiedu.
He recounted that Prof. Asiedu had been suspended from his position as Regional Chairman for one month, effective immediately, and subsequently been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee on charges of anti-party conduct.
Furthermore, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey indicated that the Functional Executive Committee of the opposition party has suspended its Assin Central Constituency Secretary, Sadique Broni.
Similar to the disciplinary action meted out to the party’s Central Regional Chairman, Mr Kwetey stated that the Assin Central Constituency Secretary, Sadique Broni, would equally face a one-month suspension and referral to the National Disciplinary Committee on charges of anti-party conduct.
Annulment of Withdrawal Decision
Moreover, Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey emphasized that the Functional Executive Committee in its meeting declared the letter from the Central Region NDC Secretariat, which sought to withdraw Migyimah’s candidacy and suspend his party membership, as null and void.
As a result, Mr Kwetey indicated that Nurudeen Shaibu Migyimah remains the National Democratic Congress’s parliamentary candidate for the Assin Central Constituency for the December 2024 general elections.
In a letter addressed to the Regional Chairman of the Central Region of the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, emphasized the opposition party’s Functional Executive Committee’s decisions and reiterated Mr Migyimah’s candidacy status.
He emphasized that the original withdrawal and suspension letter from the Central Region NDC had no standing and assured that Mr Migyimah would continue to represent the party in the forthcoming elections.
This decisive action by the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Kwetey noted underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining unity and order within its ranks as it prepares for the general elections.
The Central Regional Functional Executive Committee (R-FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on June 28, 2024, announced the immediate withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Assin Central Constituency.
This decision according to the party follows serious allegations of immoral acts and anti-party conduct leveled against Nurein Shiabu Migyimah.
The decision was contained in an official communication from the Central Regional Secretariat issued by Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, the Regional Secretary of the opposition party, addressed to the Assin Central Constituency Chairman and copied to the Constituency Secretary.
