The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced an ambitious nationwide prayer initiative aimed at ensuring the party’s success in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The party’s Religious Committee set up the 24-hour “Victory Chain Prayer” that will run from 15th September to 10th December 2024.
In a press statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC emphasized that the prayer chain would be a “spiritually enriching activity” designed to galvanize divine support for a peaceful and successful electoral process.
He noted that the Religious Committee of the opposition party crafted the initiative as part of the party’s broader commitment to national peace, calling on all Ghanaians to join in the spiritual exercise.
“This is part of our commitment to securing Divine support and fostering a peaceful electoral process. The prayer session kick starts at the NDC Headquarters from Sunday 15th September to Tuesday 10th December 2024 and will be operational across the country simultaneously to seek the face of God for a massive victory”.

According to Mr Kwetey, the initiative seeks to secure not only victory for the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, but also aims to foster peace and harmony before, during, and after the elections.
“We encourage all Men of God, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and members of the general public to participate in this critical national spiritual exercise. It is not only for the NDC but for the peace and harmony of the entire country”.

Seeking Divine Intervention for Electoral Success
Furthermore, Mr Kwetey noted that the prayer chain is structured to ensure continuous intercession across the country, with prayers taking place simultaneously at various locations throughout Ghana.
He framed the initiative as a means of seeking God’s intervention to secure a massive endorsement for former President John Dramani Mahama, whom the party believes is divinely ordained to “reset Ghana.”
According to the statement, the purpose of the prayer chain is twofold, including a call for a massive electoral victory. The NDC believes that prayer is a key ingredient to ensuring the party’s triumph at the polls, as well as fulfilling what they see as a divine prophecy.
The other purpose according to the opposition National Democratic Congress is for a peaceful election. With tensions often high during election periods, the NDC hopes that the prayers will help foster peace across the country, preventing potential unrest or violence during and after the electoral process.
The initiative comes at a crucial time, as the political landscape in Ghana heats up with the general elections just months away.
The NDC’s focus on spiritual fortification reflects a strategy that is becoming increasingly common in Ghanaian politics, where religious undertones often play a significant role in national affairs.
The call for national prayer is likely to resonate with various religious leaders and spiritual figures across the country, with several of them likely to participate in the prayer sessions.
The NDC’s leadership expects that the spiritual backing will rally not only its party members but also Ghanaians from all walks of life to unite in prayer for the country’s peaceful future.
This bold spiritual exercise highlights the NDC’s intention to blend faith with politics as they head into a fiercely competitive election season.
The NDC’s prayer chain, which runs until 10th December 2024, is a clear sign that the party is prepared to explore all avenues—both practical and spiritual—in its quest for victory.
The party’s reliance on divine guidance could significantly shape the tone of the campaign and influence the way the 2024 general elections are approached by both the party and its supporters.
