Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, has declared that the party has established a robust defense system to thwart potential electoral manipulation attempts by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Fifi Kwetey emphatically stated that the current government’s desperation to cling to power is unparalleled, exceeding even the remarkable levels of tenacity displayed during the era of former President John Kufuor, setting a new precedent in the annals of Ghanaian political history.
He denounced the current administration as the most brazen and egregious culprit in the manipulation of election results, surpassing all previous instances of electoral malfeasance.
“In the 2008 elections, which everybody would have said that after 8 years, normally it should be relatively easy for the opposition to win, it was not an easy election for us to win. We did everything we could in terms of our message and machinery. But, even those final moments, in the strong room of the Electoral Commission, we nearly lost the election”.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey
Fifi Kwetey reaffirmed his conviction that President Akufo-Addo will stop at nothing to subvert the electoral process, emphasizing the imperative need for heightened vigilance and preparedness to safeguard the integrity and legitimacy of the upcoming elections.
The NDC General Secretary noted that the Kufuor-led NPP, while in opposition, effectively admitted their own ineptitude, conceding that they were not a proficient government.
However, he opined that when compared to Kufuor’s administration, the current NPP government is, in his opinion, the most abysmal and incompetent iteration the country has ever witnessed, surpassing all previous records of ineptitude.
He further asserted that the current administration is not only the most incompetent but also the most desperate, and its desperation necessitates the NDC’s preparedness for the worst-case scenarios, as they anticipate an escalation of egregious tactics from the ruling party.

Furthermore, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey observed that given the NPP’s history of last-minute electoral malfeasance, including their brazen actions within the Electoral Commission room, the NDC is bracing itself for even more egregious and desperate attempts to subvert the electoral process, as the ruling party’s penchant for manipulation knows no bounds.

He emphasized that, given the NPP’s unscrupulous nature, the NDC must ensure that its machinery and personnel are of the highest caliber, with a precision-engineered strategy to counter the ruling party’s ruthless tactics, as they will spare no effort to maintain their grip on power.
“What you must appreciate is that in the leadership of the NPP, we have today, the levels of desperation that we see in them, we never saw that in President Kufuor. I was leading the NDC’s communication back in time when former President Kufuor was in power”.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey
Moreover, Fifi Kwetey acknowledged that while the NDC vigorously opposed former President Kufuor’s administration, they nevertheless owe him a debt of respect, and thus, the NDC must accord him due recognition and accolades for his contributions to Ghana’s political landscape.
He observed that the current NPP administration has not only surpassed its predecessors in mal governance and disappointment but has also distinguished itself as the most unscrupulous and ruthless, willing to go to any lengths to maintain its power and perpetuate its misrule.
Dr. Omane Boamah of the NDC also lamented that, despite the party’s earlier identification of new and additional errors, the Electoral Commission (EC) has failed to release the comprehensive figure of newly registered voters, intensifying the NDC’s discontent with the EC and reinforcing the imperative for vigilance.
“In as much as we observe the EC’s operations with keen interest, the most important aspect of this pending election is our ability to recruit and train sophisticated polling agents, especially in the so-called stronghold of our main contender. We cannot afford to let what happened in the Ashanti region repeat itself (where about 30% of the NDC’s polling agents, were actually sympathetic to the NPP”
Dr. Omane Boamah
He emphasized that wresting power from the incompetent NPP government is a civic duty and a national imperative, necessitating collective effort and responsibility for the betterment of Ghana.
