The Deputy Director of Special Duties of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Brogya Gyenfi has accused the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party of deliberately skewing the party’s National Delegates Conference to favour the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party leadership has failed to address the concerns that led to the withdrawal of the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen from the contest and his subsequent resignation from the party.
He noted that the decision of the New Patriotic Party leadership to deliberately design the presidential primaries to favour the Vice President is to shield the party from its wrongdoings over the period it has been in office.
“From how Alan Kyerematen’s agent was treated in Dr Bawumia’s region where he was hit in the eye and he got injured and was flown to Accra to seek medical attention and the party has been very silent about it. The person who is alleged to have committed that crime is the regional youth organizer of the NPP in the North East Region and there has not been any disciplinary action against him. The police have not acted probably because their boss is in support of Dr. Bawumia.
“Again, beginning this week, we heard of reports of District Chief Executives all being deployed to induce delegates and present various items to get Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia elected. For us in the NDC we are not expecting anything; what we are looking forward to is that by tomorrow, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be declared the Presidential Candidates for the New Patriotic Party. I do not know how the endorsement would be but at least I know that Dr Bawumia would be the winner”.

NPP Urged To Conduct Incidence-Free Election Tomorrow
Moreover, the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress urged the New Patriotic Party to avert any action that would escalate into violence in tomorrow’s presidential primaries.
Mr. Brogya Gyenfi expressed deep concerns about the acrimonious nature of the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries and warned that if appropriate measures are not put in place chaos is likely to arise during Saturday’s November 4 contest.
Additionally, Mr Brogya Gyenfi emphasized that the National Democratic Congress as a political party is prepared and ready to defeat the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections as he together with President Akufo-Addo has demonstrated over the past seven years that it has been in office that it has nothing to offer the good people of Ghana.
“The Vice President’s conduct and competence have betrayed him in terms of what he said he could do and what he has done over the past seven years and so the people of Ghana know that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cannot handle this nation if given the mandate as the president”.

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson on Security and the New Patriotic Party parliamentary aspirant for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Palgrave Boakye Danquah on the other hand asserted that the New Patriotic Party has demonstrated over the processes leading to the party’s presidential primaries that it believes in the principle of democracy and good governance.
According to him, he is very optimistic that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will receive an overwhelming endorsement from delegates across the 275 constituencies and 16 regions in the country after the close of polls.
He noted that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has demonstrated distinguishable traits and character deserving to be elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.
The New Patriotic Party is set to hold its National Delegates Conference tomorrow, Saturday, 4th November 2023 to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
The contest is fierce between the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.
The other aspirants include; the former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afryie Akoto and Addai Nimo, the former Member of Parliament for Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti region.
