The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency, Hon. A.B.A. Fuseini has issued a compelling call to action, urging the leaders of the country, particularly the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana to address the alarming irregularities in the 2024 general election register.
His plea comes as concerns mount over the credibility and accuracy of the electoral roll, which many believe is crucial to ensuring free and fair elections in Ghana.
The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament, who is also a staunch advocate for democracy and peace, emphasized that the electoral register is the cornerstone of the country’s democratic and electoral process.
“The legitimacy of the 2024 elections hinges on the trust and confidence of the Ghanaian people in the electoral process. Any perception of bias or manipulation could lead to widespread unrest, erode public trust in the democratic system, and potentially plunge the country into chaos.”

He warned that any discrepancies or manipulations within this vital document not only undermine the integrity of the elections but also pose a serious threat to the stability and unity of the country.
According to Hon. Fuseini, ensuring the accuracy of the register is not just a political imperative but a national duty with far-reaching implications for Ghana’s future.
Stakeholders Urged to Take Action
In his impassioned appeal, Hon. Fuseini called upon leaders from all political parties, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and traditional authorities to join forces in a united effort to hold the Electoral Commission (EC) accountable.
He stressed the need for the Electoral Commission to rectify any errors or fraudulent entries that have led to a bloated register, insisting that this issue transcends partisan politics and touches the very fabric of Ghanaian society.
He underscored that the EC must demonstrate transparency and integrity by thoroughly auditing and correcting the election register to uphold the principles of democracy.
Hon. Fuseini’s call to action comes at a critical juncture, as the 2024 elections approach and tensions rise over the credibility of the electoral process. His remarks underscored the importance of safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
He passionately urged Ghanaian leaders to rise above partisan interests and prioritize the country’s welfare, emphasizing that the call to correct the electoral register is a call to safeguard the future of Ghana.
“Our collective responsibility is to ensure a clean and credible register. By doing so, we can avoid the pitfalls of electoral violence and build a stronger, more united nation”.

His resolute belief in the power of unity and collaboration to protect Ghana’s democratic future is a rallying cry for all Ghanaians to work together for peace, justice, and democracy.
The Sagnarigu MP’s appeal resonates with earlier calls by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress, demanding urgent action from the Electoral Commission to address some identified irregularities in the electoral register.
In an earlier call to action, the Deputy Director of IT and Elections for the NDC, Dr. Rashid Tanko expressed significant dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana following the commission’s response to a letter the party had written, requesting a meeting to address concerns about the credibility of the electoral register.
Dr Tanko dismissed the EC’s assurance that the register was credible, urging the general public to equally dismiss the Electoral Commission’s statement with the contempt it deserves.
His criticism centred around the inconsistency of the EC’s statements and actions, specifically regarding the provisional register.
Dr Tanko found it contradictory that the EC would describe the register as credible while simultaneously displaying it for public correction.
As the nation prepares for the 2024 elections, the integrity of the electoral process remains a paramount concern for all stakeholders committed to a peaceful and democratic Ghana.
