Security analyst, Dr Adam Bonaa, has commended the ad-hoc committee investigating the leaked audio which sought the removal of IGP Akuffo Dampare.
According to him, the committee has so far remained resolute to its guiding principles in the line of questioning witnesses. He revealed that the decision by the committee to investigate matters thoroughly without digressing portrays their competence.
“… I am happy the chairman of the occasion has maintained that they’re not losing focus. They should strictly go according to their term of reference because mine is that they are not put there to investigate or inquire into police administrative functions – [although] they could go into some of the areas, for instance promotions…”

Dr Bonaa commenting on the appearance of the IGP before the committee, stated that the proceeding was “instrumental, very informative, and probably this is what some of us have been waiting for”.
He explained that the narrations by the IGP further proves that “this is a plot that has gone very wrong”, as a lot of things have been said in the open.
“So, some of us who know these officers were lying, kept hammering that they’re just liars… You can see from the IGP’s own demeanor, his POMAB members following him to the sitting, and a lot of things he said which are of public knowledge now. So, what I can say is that this to me looks more like the vetting of the Inspector General of Police.”

Furthermore, Dr Bonaa argued that the questioning of the IGP sounded like a “vetting”, where the “President will appoint a minister of state or somebody” and has to go through parliament. He indicated that this time around, it is not what the IGP was going to do, but it was all about what the IGP has done that was being scrutinized.
That notwithstanding, Dr Bonaa underscored the need to put an end to the matter. He highlighted that once this is done, it will bring some closure to parties involved.
“As far as I’m concerned, I think we would have to move on and unite the country, believing that this disgruntled, disgraced police officers – he’s going on the 16th, he’ll never be called to become the IGP so that he would try any attempt to say I’ll break the 8 for the NPP…”

Appearance of Kan Dapaah, Bugri Naabu before committee
Justifying his stance, Dr Bonaa recounted that even though former President John Mahama appointed John Kudalor in 2016 as the IGP, the NPP won by a landslide. Owing to this, he stated that as far as he’s concerned, these officers must be forgiven.
“Recommendations should be made, but we should forgive them as a country. During the testimony, largely their heads were bowed, and for me, that alone is enough, that the day of reckoning, partially we are seeing it. So, we need to move on and unite this country.”

Touching on the committee’s request for national security minister, Kan Dapaah, Bugri Naabu and others to show up today, September 13, Dr Bonaa agreed with the committee’s position.
He revealed that in the case of Bugri Naabu, a critical review of the videos which portrayed him as being under duress, must be assessed.
“My intel tells me Bugri Naabu was actually even threatened. So, I’m told he was put under a lot of duress, you can see he was on his own, and you had these young able men who were pushing him to admit to certain things…”
