Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, member of the Communications team of the NDC has stated that, President Akuffo Addo is a “stubborn old man” because he refused to listen to the plights of Ghanaians to dismiss Ken Ofori-Attah from office.
He mentioned that the President is retaining the finance minister at the expense of the economy and members of the President’s party have made it clear that they no longer want Ken Ofori-Attah in office. He added that he does not know the type of covenant that the President has with Ken Ofori-Attah.
“I don’t know whether it is a blood covenant such that if he removes Ken Ofori Attah, he will die, I don’t know…If this country was his company and the workers in that company tell him that the finance director is mismanaging affairs, wont he listen to them? Or is it because it is Ghana and he doesn’t care about what happens to Ghanaians?”
Abraham Amaliba
According to Lawyer Amaliba, the President is the cause of all the issues revolving around the removal of Ken Ofori Attah. He further stated that, the majority was prevaricating because they took back their decision to stand against the call for the dismissal of the finance minister.
He explained that initially the majority was in support of the removal of the finance minister from office but, after a meeting with the President, they were no longer in support of the decision. He described the turn- around of the majority as purely political, indicating that in the minds of the majority “anything coming from the NDC should be taken with a pinch of salt.”
“But somehow, in their prevarication, you can see through one thing which is common to the minority that, they also want the finance minister out.”
Abraham Amaliba
The political pressure of the majority did not yield immediate results, he said. He explained that the majority had the opportunity to align with the constitutional pressure of the minority, and this would have yielded the same results which is the dismissal of Ken Ofori -Attah.
The President May Be Practicing Nepotism
Meanwhile, on the same discussion, Chairman of Political Affairs of the CPP Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, agrees with Lawyer Amaliba on his statement that the President is stubborn, and he further stated that the President was being nepotic with Ken Ofori-Attah’s case.
He intimated that, Parliament may have been complicit with the indulges of Ken Ofori-Attah, indicating that both sides of the house rectified, voted and gave the finance minister the permission to take loans.
“I’m saying that they have a responsibility, they have something to answer to the people of Ghana, and yes, they should have been harder when the loans were coming and going. They should have been harder on the finance minister.”
Kwame Jantuah
Lawyer Jantuah stated that the stabilization fund had been cut from 500 million dollars to 100 million dollars and if the country falls into deep crisis, it would have no buffer to support the people. He expressed his displeasure with regards to the President’s decision to retain Ken Ofori-Attah despite the woeful pleas of the people to dismiss him.
“The moment Ken Ofori-Attah is fired, you’ll see what will happen because I believe that the international investors do not have confidence in him.”
Kwame Jantuah
He emphasized that Ken Ofori-Attah was being kept in office due to nepotism from the side of the President, adding that the President did not give the people any tangible reason, apart from the IMF negotiations for keeping the finance minister in office.
