Minerals Commission of Ghana has spearheaded a high-level working visit with a delegation from the Revenue Development Foundation (RDF) to the Zijin Akyem Mine in the Eastern Region to witness first-hand the operational excellence and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards being upheld at the facility.
This strategic site visit followed the successful conclusion of the 2026 RDF Governance Systems Workshop in Accra, serving as a practical extension of the discussions regarding modern mineral administration and revenue transparency.
“We hosted a delegation from the Revenue Development Foundation at our Akyem Gold Mine in collaboration with the Minerals Commission of Ghana. The RDF delegation acknowledged Zijin’s commitment to ESG initiatives, particularly programmes that support surrounding mine-impacted communities.”
Zijin Golden Ridge

The tour allowed the RDF delegation, comprising international revenue specialists and governance experts, to inspect various sections of the large-scale gold operation, which Zijin Golden Ridge Limited assumed control of in 2025.
During the engagement, the team assessed the mine’s technological integration and its rigorous adherence to safety protocols, noting the facility’s role as a benchmark for industrial efficiency in West Africa.
Revenue Specialist at RDF, Vera Magero, expressed her admiration for the site’s management, stating, “One of the most impressive things was the level of organization and cleanliness across the site,” while emphasizing that the clear safety guidelines make it “easy to understand how activities are carried out safely.”
Strengthening State-Corporate Synergy through Transparency

The working visit is expected to significantly bolster the relationship between the Government of Ghana and Zijin Mining by aligning corporate operations with national transparency goals.
By facilitating this visit, the Minerals Commission has demonstrated its “unyielding commitment to transparency and operational efficiency,” ensuring that major investors like Zijin are held to the same digital and governance standards recently integrated into the national mineral cadastre system.
This openness fosters a climate of mutual trust, where the state can verify production data and revenue flows in real-time, thereby reducing the “administrative bottlenecks” that historically hampered sector growth.
Furthermore, the involvement of the RDF, a body dedicated to helping governments maximize “mineral revenue governance” provides a third-party validation of the fiscal health of the Akyem operations.
This synergy ensures that the $20 billion export milestone targeted by the government is supported by verifiable, high-standard operations that protect the national interest while providing a predictable environment for the investor.
Benchmarking Responsible Mining and ESG Excellence

Beyond revenue metrics, the visit underscores a shift toward a more “green, high-tech, top-tier” mining culture in Ghana.
The RDF delegation’s focus on ESG initiatives highlights how Zijin is navigating the transition from raw extraction to sustainable development, with programs specifically designed to support “mine-impacted communities” through education and infrastructure.
This visit ensures responsible mining by placing the mine under the scrutiny of international governance experts, who observed that “every section of the mine is well maintained.”
The collaboration between the Minerals Commission and Zijin Golden Ridge serves as a blueprint for the “Responsible Mining Agenda,” which seeks to balance aggressive production targets with environmental stewardship.
As Zijin plans to lift mining throughput to 37 million tonnes in 2026, such oversight ensures that “technological innovation and robust governance frameworks” remain the foundational pillars of the expansion.
This visit proves that when regulators and investors walk the same path, the result is a “resilient, future-focused mining industry” that benefits both the shareholder and the citizen.
