Ghanaian musician Captain Planet, a member of the renowned group 4X4, demanded answers on betting tax claims.
The controversy stems from claims made by former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who asserted that the 10 percent withholding betting tax earnings was never implemented, despite the current government’s announcement of its abolition.
During a press address following the budget presentation in Parliament, Dr. Amin Adam questioned the government’s decision to abolish the betting tax, stating, “Ladies and gentlemen, betting tax that they said they have abolished—we never collected betting tax. We never implemented the betting tax.”
His comments have sparked widespread backlash, with many Ghanaians questioning the validity of the tax and its collection.

Captain Planet, whose real name is Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey, took to social media to challenge Dr. Adam’s claims. In a post that has since gone viral, the musician demanded accountability.
“NPP people say they never implemented the betting tax, so who was collecting the betting tax? We need to find that person and jail them.”

The 2025 budget, presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on March 11, 2025, included several significant policy decisions.
Among them was the abolition of the controversial E-Levy, emissions levy, and betting tax, fulfilling a campaign promise made by President John Dramani Mahama.
However, Dr. Amin Adam’s assertion that the betting tax was never implemented has cast doubt on the government’s narrative.
If the betting tax was indeed never enforced, questions arise about why its abolition was announced and whether any unauthorized collections took place.
Shatta Wale Criticizes Betting Tax Claims

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale strongly criticised former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam over his claim that the Akufo-Addo administration never implemented the controversial 10% betting tax.
His remarks quickly went viral, triggering a wave of criticism, particularly from individuals involved in betting and fans of sports-related entertainment.
Among the critics was Shatta Wale, who took to Facebook to call out the former minister.

Many Ghanaians also expressed frustration online, claiming they had consistently been subjected to the 10% betting tax.
Several individuals shared screenshots and personal testimonies confirming deductions from their winnings of betting tax under the NPP-led government.

Critics have accused the former minister of attempting to rewrite history for political gain, warning that such denials could further damage the NPP’s credibility and electoral prospects.
Shatta Wale’s blunt response has added fuel to the debate, reinforcing public skepticism about the government’s transparency on taxation matters.
Many social media users reacted to the video of the former finance minister stating during a press conference that the NPP did not implement any betting tax.
