Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Eno Barony has disclosed how she almost gave up on music exactly six years ago.
In a walk down memory lane, the “Heavy Load” crooner took to Instagram to recount her ordeal to the public. Posting an old picture from Facebook dated February 16, 2015, she shared her story behind that particular Facebook post through a caption.
Eno Barony noted in the caption that she was at her wits’ end because, she was greatly suffering in life as a musician and didn’t know anyone she could turn to for help. She mentioned that she was “hungry” and “heartbroken” and was ready to give up on music. She further revealed that media personality, Stacy Amoateng, and her husband, Quophi Okyeame, upon seeing her post on Facebook motivated her and asked her not to give up yet because she was almost at the end of the tunnel and will receive her breakthrough soon.
She also wrote: “@abrewaa99 [Abrewaa Nana] called, she laughed and said ‘you don’t know how big you are. Industry people called me this morning to ask about you. They see you but you don’t see it is a journey so move on'”.
She later revealed that she didn’t have any management or a fan base and even sang at gigs for free when she knew she was financially unstable: “I was motivated but, I asked myself, how do I move on with no money?”
According to her, she turned her old outfits into a different style just so she appeared different when going to sing at a show because she didn’t have money to afford a new costume. She also added that she had to rely on her mother for financial support but unfortunately her mother died two months later.
“People laughed at me for my dressing. I still moved on to get interviews which I couldn’t afford lorry fares for and after [the interview], and after a hell of a struggle to get there, all they ask me for is freestyle without even promoting my tracks. I hide to sit in ‘trotro’ to go for shows and when people try to video me, I cry”.
She summed her life story up by advising and motivating her fans, and other social media users not to give up on their dreams no matter how long it takes.
“I stopped writing. My grief was too much but, I put myself together and moved till one day, I realized that everything changed. I can afford the things I never had. Wow! I thank God but, I think you can also push forward for something bigger. You may be delayed, but you will never be denied. My journey still goes on, watch out for the next level”.
Her fans and other celebrities who were moved by her story reacted to her post. Most of them praised her and encouraged her to keep pushing hard since they know her best is yet to come. Some reactions from her post read:
