Be Civil
Also commenting on conduct as Parliament resumes, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, called on the lawmakers especially the opposition legislators to be civil and not to resort to fisticuffs in resolving issues in Parliament.
The Ofoase Ayirebi Lawmaker in a statement noted that the image of Ghana was badly damaged following the fights in the House during the first session of the 8th Parliament and efforts must be made in redeeming it.
Oppong Nkrumah further stated the Majority in Parliament will re-engage the Minority on issues the two sides have disagreements on, in order to reach a consensus.
“The past few months in Ghana’s parliamentary history will go down as some of the most embarrassing. The best example of West African democracy was drowned in regular examples of unruly behavior by honorable members of the house simply because we disagreed on issues.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
Oppong Nkrumah mentioned that the chamber from where Parliament was previously praised for its respect for the rule of law and peaceful civil conduct even when it disagreed, is now lampooned as being the example of failed leaders.
