Minority leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed gratitude to participants of the OccupyBoG protest organized by the minority in parliament.
He revealed that thousands of people showed up for the protest to register their revulsion at the mismanagement of the Bank of Ghana by Governor Addison and his two Deputy Governors. This, he noted, should send a clear message to them that the people of Ghana have lost confidence in their governorship and that their continuous stay at the Bank is untenable.
“On behalf of the Minority Caucus in Parliament and our collaborating partners for the #OccupyBoG protest, I sincerely thank all those who joined Tuesday’s protest in Accra to demand the resignation and/ or removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two Deputy Governors.”

Contained in a statement dated October 4, 2023, Dr Forson equally thanked the leadership and rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), AriseGhana, PNC, GCPP, PPP, APC, Ghana Union Movement, COPEC Ghana, FOCAP, ASEPA, Justice for Ghana, the Okada Drivers Association of Ghana and Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana.
Additionally, he extended gratitude to the Actors for Change, United Motor Association, Fishermen and Fish Mongers, leading figures of Fix the Country Movement, Kayayei and all other stakeholders for their unflinching support.
“To the people of Ghana who stood with us throughout our community engagements, and turned out in your thousands for this historic protest, we salute your courage and patriotism. We wish to assure you that as a Minority group, we shall remain resolute and unwavering in upholding the national interest and holding the feet of this government to the fire of accountability.”

NDC resolves to exhaust legitimate means to back demand for BoG Governor’s resignation
Furthermore, Dr Forson highlighted that the “sins of Governor Addison and his Deputy Governors are unpardonable”. Among others, he explained that they are responsible for illegally and excessively printing money to finance the “reckless” expenditure of the “corrupt and wasteful” Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government.
He contended that their actions pushed a further 850,000 Ghanaians below the poverty line, even as they wrote-off the government’s indebtedness of GHS48.4 billion to the Bank without the approval of Parliament.
Similarly, he revealed that the BoG Governor also recorded a staggering and unprecedented loss of GHC60.8 billion in 2022, insisting the Bank of Ghana is now “bankrupt and insolvent”.
“The NDC Minority in Parliament does not believe that Governor Addison and his two deputies who have caused this mess at the Bank of Ghana are capable of fixing their own mess. This will require a new set of leadership that is politically neutral and able to perform the functions of a central bank in line with its mandate.”

Meanwhile, the minority leader called for a new leadership that is able to rebuild trust and confidence in the financial markets, the investor community and the general public.
He noted that while it was obvious that the Governor and his Deputy Governors failed to appreciate the seriousness of Tuesday’s #OccupyBoG protest, he wishes to assure them that it was only the beginning.
“We hereby serve notice that we will avail ourselves of all legitimate options, including more protests, to back our demand for their resignation and/ or removal.”
