The Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has extended his congratulations to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, following their resounding victory in the 2024 general elections. He applauded Dr. Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 elections.
Miracles Aboagye began by recognizing the efforts of John Dramani Mahama and credited the NDC for their achievement. He remarked;
“Let me first of all congratulate the president-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC party. I think that to run a campaign that long, it’s no mean an activity. It’s a lot of work. And so, if you eventually come out victorious, it’s a big deal. It’s unfair if anybody tries to downplay that victory. I wouldn’t be happy if it was the NPP that won this election and anybody tried to downplay it.”

Reflecting on the election results, Miracles Aboagye admitted that the scale of the NDC’s victory caught the New Patriotic Party (NPP) off guard. Drawing a comparison he said;
“You recall in 2016 when we won by a million. We thought it was historic. In fact, people thought it’s not something anybody could repeat -to realize around 3:00 am – 3:30 am, that we’re actually losing by not just a million but 1.6 million, it was a big shock.”

Despite their confidence in the NPP’s campaign message and solutions, he emphasized;
“We believed we had superior propositions to confront these issues [but] I think the people thought otherwise. They think that maybe the options that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama brings to the table will deal with their issues better than the options that we brought.”

Aboagye hailed John Mahama’s political resilience, describing his comeback as remarkable. He noted:
“You lose an election by a million and then you come back eight years later and win by 1.6 million. That’s a big deal. Personally, for him as a person, as a politician, it’s a huge achievement.”

“The party and even the people of this country acknowledge his hard work, his dedication. Nobody, even in the midst of all this discussion, has pointed a finger at him.”

Rebuilding the NPP and Preparing for 2028
Turning his focus to the NPP, Miracles Aboagye stressed the need for reflection and reorganization in the wake of the party’s defeat. He added;
“The party and most of us are simply waiting for him [Dr. Bawumia] to make a decision. Once he decides that he’s going to run again, be rest assured that the party is going to rally behind him [ Dr. Bawumia] strongly. We are all praying and hoping that he leads the party into the 2028 elections. He’s done so well. He’s applied himself so well. Look at the decorum with which he executed his campaign. The elevation with which he’s lifted the political discourse. He’s done so well.”

When asked about the controversial selection of a running mate for the campaign. He noted;
“Selection of a running mate is always a prerogative of the flagbearer. Maybe when you have an opportunity to sit down with him, you can ask him.”

He reiterated the importance of reorganization and reflection to regain the trust of the electorate:
“The party is trying to rebuild. He’s [Dr. Bawumia] the leader of the party. So, that’s his job. He needs to stand up and lead us to do the rebuilding, the reflection, and then lead us into recapturing.”
