The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Builsa South has vehemently denounced the recent violent assault allegedly perpetrated by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba, against Mr. Saeed Jafar Mohamed.
Mr. Mohamed, a media professional and head of the District Business Advisory Unit, was reportedly attacked on the premises of the Builsa South District Assembly on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
In a statement, the NDC described the incident as appalling and wholly unacceptable, emphasizing that such behavior is unbecoming of a public official.
The party noted that public servants are responsible for upholding integrity, professionalism, and empathy in their roles. These values are essential for fostering public trust and setting a positive example within the community.
“However, Hon. Gariba’s violent actions undermine the dignity of workers and exhibit a blatant disregard for the rule of law and basic human decency. Such behavior betrays the trust reposed in him by the people of Builsa South.
“Reports indicate that Mr. Saeed is currently admitted to the Fumbisi District Hospital, receiving treatment for injuries sustained in this vicious attack”.

The NDC further asserted that the reckless behavior exhibited by Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba is entirely unbecoming of someone holding public office, much less of an individual seeking to represent the people of Builsa South in Parliament as the NPP’s candidate.
The party emphasized that such conduct raises serious questions about his suitability for leadership and public trust.
The party also highlighted a troubling pattern of violence associated with Hon. Gariba, citing a previous incident as evidence of his disregard for decorum and accountability.
The NDC revealed that on October 21, 2023, Hon. Gariba reportedly assaulted Mr. Wadudu, the manager of the Naagamni Fuel Station, after the manager declined his request to lift fuel on credit due to outstanding debts. “This unprovoked attack left Mr. Wadudu with serious injuries”.
According to the NDC, these repeated acts of aggression demonstrate a concerning tendency towards intimidation and abuse of power, which undermines the values expected of public servants and parliamentary aspirants.
NDC Accuses DCE of Power Abuse and Intimidation
Furthermore, the NDC highlighted that Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba has a history of abusing his authority, citing a particularly egregious incident in which he unlawfully ordered the arrest of the District Finance Officer (DFO).
This action reportedly occurred after the DFO insisted on repaying the debts owed by the DCE.
Such a misuse of power, the NDC argued, is a blatant violation of ethical governance and demonstrates a worrying tendency to intimidate individuals from fulfilling their professional duties.

The party stressed that these repeated incidents reveal a troubling pattern of violence, impunity, and abuse of authority that is wholly unacceptable, particularly for someone entrusted with public office.
“The NDC in Builsa South expresses full solidarity with all victims of Hon. Gariba’s unjust actions, including Mr. Saeed, who is currently battling for his life due to the DCE’s brutality.
“These acts are gross violations of workers’ rights and an alarming abuse of authority by a public official. Call to Action. The NDC demands immediate action to hold Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba accountable for his actions”.

The NDC emphasized that this incident should mark a decisive turning point in upholding the rule of law, safeguarding the dignity and rights of workers, and ensuring accountability for those in public office.
The NDC for stricter enforcement of laws to deter such acts of violence and abuse of power, stressed the importance of creating a society where everyone, regardless of status, is subject to the same standards of justice and accountability.
The party underscored the need for public officeholders to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights in their conduct. “Violence and intimidation in any form must be firmly rejected, and the rule of law must always prevail”.
