Mr. Alex Segbefia, the Chairman for the 2022 National Delegates’ Conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured Ghanaians, especially party delegates, that the party’s legal team is handling possible cases of injunction ahead of Saturday’s National Delegates’ Conference at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking in an interview today December 16, Mr. Alex Segbefia disclosed that by the close of today, the party would be settled on candidates who would be allowed to vote and those who would not be allowed to vote. To him, the NDC is optimistic about Saturday’s election and believes it will be more peaceful and successful than previous ones.
“We do have potential injunction cases but they are being dealt with. We know that we will reach some amicable resolution of all those matters by close of today.”

Speaking on the lessons learned from the youth and women’s organizer congress held almost a week ago at Capecoast, Mr Segbefia stated that the party has identified the causes of the clashes and therefore to avoid a repetition of the violent clashes, “No T-shirts of aspirants will be allowed in the premises”, emphasizing that party colours are however, allowed.
This, the Chairman of the national congress planning committee of the NDC explained that, is because the T-shirts of aspirants “are means of infuriating or identifying people and once they are groups, things can then spark off.”
Mr Segbefia stated that members of the public without properly identified tags or observer tags will not be allowed in the stadium.
New Party Constitution
Mr Alex Segbefia further called for a new constitution for the party. He disclosed that a new constitution is one of the surest ways to solve intra-party electoral violence.
“The most important thing is that we need a constitutional change. If we are able to amend our constitution as we have always planned to do, then I am sure a lot of these issues will not arise but new issues will come up as we go along and thus do further amendment.
“A constitution is a living document and as a country one of our biggest challenges is our constitution and needs to be changed.”

The Chairman again mentioned that ”one of the easiest things to do is for the party to be able to decentralize and that will solve the problem of monetization as well as allow more people to vote, gradually eroding the ability to induce people.”
According to him, the Committee has teamed up with the police to tighten security in and around the Accra Sports Stadium to ensure that the event on Saturday, December 17 is peaceful.
