Former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, has stated that the party aims to clinch victory in the general elections and thereby ‘break the eight’. He asserted that the party’s objective is that the country’s democratic journey must continue with the NPP.
He declared that all the members of the party’s new National Campaign Committees share the same objective and determined to work tirelessly to contribute their quota to achieve the party’s goal in the coming election.
“There is no easy election anywhere. Even in the Soviet Union…I don’t think Putin takes elections easy. There is nothing called an easy election anywhere. We are going to work hard on the ground…to win an election. Nobody is going to hand us the victory on a silver platter”.
Mr. Peter Mac Manu
Mr. Peter Mac Manu asserted that the party’s Presidential Candidate was democratically elected to represent the NPP in the general elections and therefore qualifies to be elected as President of the country. He stressed that the NPP as a party, believes in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to clinch victory for the party during the December 2024 general polls.
Lauding the democratic proficiency of the NPP, the former Party Chairman revealed that, in a recent party event, delegates from Nigeria were present to study the party’s internal structure and how it practices democracy effortlessly.
Mr. Peter Mac Manu argued that voters vote based on past accomplishments and future plans of candidates and further asserted that the Vice President’s plans for the country are convincing enough to accrue him votes during the polls in December.
He also indicated that the narrative that the Vice President is parting ways with the party’s ideologies and the incumbent government is flawed. He argued that the Vice President is being candid to Ghanaians and assuring them of good fate in the future and not indicting the incumbent government.
The NPP’s former Chairman argued that the current economic hardship the country is plunged into is not peculiar to Ghana. He maintained that other countries in the sub-Sahara are experiencing the same hardship.
According to him, Ghana has been able to achieve some economic stability after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. He disclosed that more foreigners are settling in the country because Ghana is doing fairly well compared to other countries in the sub-region.
Ghana’s Economy And NPP’s Robust Campaign Strategy
Furthermore, the former Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, further indicated that economic indicators such as the steadied exchange rate and inflation rate are a reflection of Ghana’s stabilized economy. He emphasized that there is food security and unlimited access to electricity and petroleum in the country.
He argued that no nation has had a continuous positive growth in its economy and stressed that many countries had experienced economic setbacks at a certain point in time. He maintained that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the right man to redeem the country’s economy.
Mr. Peter Mac Manu also disclosed that the NPP will engage in a retail campaign strategy as it has always done. He stated that the party will conduct a door-to-door campaign to ensure that the party’s message reaches every Ghanaian.
He adjudged the retail campaign strategy as the best as it allows the party to appreciate the voter and also gives the voter and opportunity to ask questions about issues that are of importance to them.
“What I can tell you is that you will have to do a baseline study, come out with what the voters want and match it against the capabilities of the flagbearer…then it will also inform the manifesto committee what to put in the manifesto for the future”.
Mr. Peter Mac Manu
Moreover, Mr. Peter Mac Manu asserted that every election is different and so is the 2024 General Elections. He stated that the NPP is mature and understands the ‘nitty-gritty’ of elections and therefore it will not allow itself to be intimidated like it happened in the 1992 and 1996 elections.
To conclude, the NPP has been very vocal about its capability to win the 2024 Presidential Elections. The party is also eager to reclaim a majority in parliament which it lost in the 2020 election in the 2024 General Elections.
