Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described his friendship with the late Jerry John Rawlings, a former President of the Republic of Ghana as cordial.
Despite not being close friends with the late President, Koku Anyidoho claimed that once he began protecting Rawlings from attacks by some NDC members, the late former President and his family started to warm up to him.
Anyidoho, who made these remarks, claimed that even Rawlings’ daughter, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, called him to offer him the role of serving as her father’s spokesperson, after he had issued a stern warning to NDC members who were assaulting Rawlings.
“That was when I started getting calls from his office and his house with them telling me that the former president was watching. Even at a point in time, his daughter, Zanetor called me and asked whether I want to be her father’s spokesperson. But I said no, I don’t want to be your father’s spokesperson. I’m just working on principle and I am not doing anything self-serving.”

He claimed that after getting close to Rawlings, he told him (Rawlings) that the late former president, John Evans Atta Mills, was actually affected by his criticism.
The Atta Mills Institute CEO revealed that he persuaded Rawlings to visit Atta Mills’ mausoleum for the commemoration of his passing, on the eighth anniversary.
Anyidoho Accuses Late Atta-Mills’ Brother
Moreover, Samuel Koku Anyidoho charged that John Evans Atta-Mills’s brother had disregarded the desires of his late brother by ignoring them.
He said that the late President had ordered Mr. Sammy Atta-Mills, the member of parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), to publish a thesis he had written. The subject of taxation dominates the thesis, which was purportedly written in the 1970s.
Mr. Sammy Atta-Mills allegedly held onto the thesis for years without making any attempts to have it published, according to Mr. Koku Anyidoho.
“You Sammy Atta Mills, you are the same person who said that before your brother passed on, he left something with you, his PhD thesis he wrote in the 70s… He gave the only copy of the thesis to his friend who returned it just in 2012.
“He (Prof Mills) told you (Sammy Atta Mills) that all the knowledge he has acquired in taxation was in that thesis and begged you to publish it into a book for the world to have access to it. Up till today, that book has not been published. It is with Sammy Atta Mills.”
Koku Anyidoho
This, in Mr. Anyidoho’s opinion, shows that Mr. Sammy Atta-Mills had no interest in preserving the legacy of the late Evans Atta-Mills. “You don’t care about your brother; you don’t care about his legacy,” Anyidoho lamented.
