Two persons have been injured after a deliberate crash into the convoy of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East constituency, Phyllis Koryoo Okunor.
The NDC Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant said, she noticed a car driving towards her car at a very high speed when she was driving herself home alone in her car. Madam Okunor said she spotted the suspects in her mirrors and immediately veered off her lane when the car approached her front side.
The suspects consequently rammed into her team members on motorbikes after they missed her, injuring all two of them in the process.
Madam Okunor at an emergency press conference alleged that, her opponents are behind the suspected assassins. She said this was an attempt to at worse, take her life so that she does not contest in the upcoming elections.
The incidence, she said, was subsequently reported to the police for further investigation and the apprehension of the culprits behind the attempt on her life. She also made mention that the two injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Madam Okunor said she still remains unwavering in her contest for the seat to represent the people of Awutu Senya East constituency in parliament.
Reacting to the reports, the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mrs. Hawa Koomson said she had no foreknowledge or a hand in the near-death accident of her NDC opponent.

Mrs. Koomson said, she was holding a campaign at the time the incident was reported and was informed later. She expressed her skepticism why she had a smooth operation with her male opponents but her female opponent seems to always be making accusations of violence.
Mrs Koomson however sent her best wishes to her NDC opponent and her team.
Speaking to the media, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Awutu Senya East, Michael Yaw Essuman Mensah assured the people of his municipality and the general public that, the municipality is on top of issues and would deal with individuals or groups who try to cause havoc.
He said security personnel have been tasked to ensure the safety of lives and livelihoods of residence and also to ensure that the municipality is safe for the smooth running of the day to day activities before, during and after the December 2020 polls.
The Awutu Senya East constituency parliamentary seat is keenly contested by four parliamentary aspirants. In no particular order, the candidates for this year’s election for the parliamentary representation of the people of Awutu Senya East constituency are; Addy Ishmael on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party, Nana Kwaku Appia Kwarteng of the Progressive People’s Party, incumbent Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party and Phyllis Koryoo Okunor representing the National Democratic Congress.
