Eastern Affairs, a group affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress has strongly criticized the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for what it perceived as the latter’s attack on former President John Dramani Mahama’s legacy in the Eastern Region.
The group in a statement issued by its Director of Research and Advocacy, Darlas Williams Ampomah considered the Vice President’s remarks against Mr Mahama during the ruling party’s walk at Kwahu as offensive and disappointing, especially considering what the group described as the current challenges facing the country under his leadership as the Head of the Economic Management Team.
“It is therefore deeply regrettable that amidst the unprecedented borrowing by Alhaji Bawumia in last couple of years he could not take the opportunity to mention their achievements within the enclave despite high electoral benefits that has been accrued to the New Patriotic Party since the start of the Fourth Republic”.

The Eastern Affairs group further expressed deep dismay over the state of affairs of the country under the New Patriotic Party’s administration.
Highlighting a litany of issues ranging from the ongoing power outages, high taxes crippling businesses, rising inflation, high unemployment rates, to being labeled a debt-distressed country by the International Monetary Fund, the Director of Research and Advocacy of the group painted a grim picture of the country’s economic and social conditions.
He chastised the ruling New Patriotic Party’s administration of failing to deliver on its promises it gave Ghanaians while in opposition since it assumed power in 2017.
Furthermore, Eastern Affairs group expressed disappointment over what it deemed as the current government neglect of developmental projects in the Kwahu Traditional area.
According to the group while the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia chose to criticize the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for not doing any tangible project for the people in Kwahu while in office as President of the country, evidence available disapproves of such claims.
Darlas Williams Ampomah, the Director of Research and Advocacy of the group underscored Mr Mahama’s notable achievements in Kwahu, including the construction of several Community Day Senior High Schools, the Kwahu water project, road construction, irrigation dams, electrification projects, and healthcare infrastructure such as the Abetifi Referral Hospital to back his claims.
NPP Accused of Abandoning Projects in Kwahu
He further accused the governing New Patriotic Party administration for abandoning the Abetifi Referral Hospitals which was started by the National Democratic Congress administration under former President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Mr Ampomah, the failure of the ruling New Patriotic Party to complete the Abetifi Hospital project and failure to embark on any significant major developmental project for the people of Kwahu underscored the dire need for sustained development efforts in the area and its surrounding communities.

In addition, Darlas Williams Ampomah, the Director of Research and Advocacy for Eastern Affairs, condemned what he described as “reckless” comments made by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Honorable Bryan Acheampong, which implied that New Patriotic Party would not hand over power to the opposition party even if it loses the December 7 polls during the New Patriotic Party’s walk at Kwahu.
The group noted that the remarks by the Abetifi Member of Parliament were “irresponsible” and not befitting his position as a minister of state.
The group also accused Honorable Bryan Acheampong of supervising the “mayhem” that occurred during the Ayawaso by-election on 31st December 2019 when he was the Minister responsible for National Security at the Office of the President.
The Director of Research and Advocacy for the Eastern Affairs group, Darlas Williams Ampomah concluded his statement by calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Honorable Bryan Acheampong over what he described as his “reckless” remarks.
