Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since the assumption in power has performed incredibly better than the opposition NDC.
Dr. Bawumia believes by comparison, Ghana, under the Akufo-Addo’s administration has fared better even with the entrance of the pandemic, calling on the constituents in the Bono region to vote for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
“You all can bear witness that the NPP’s performance in these four years is better than the 24 years the NDC has been in power. Akufo-Addo placed measures to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 in Ghana by providing free water and electricity to citizens. This has never happened before in Ghana. I therefore urge you all to vote for the Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidate.”
Highlighting some initiatives undertaken by the current administration, he noted that the Free Senior High School programme would have been non-existent if the National Democratic Congress had retained power in 2016.
Addressing a durbar at Kwame Danso in the Sene West constituency, Dr. Bawumia intimated that the opposition NDC has no capacity to deliver the NPP’s Free SHS programme as they were unable to pay allowances of teacher trainees and Arabic instructors during its tenure.
“President Akufo-Addo’s promise to make Senior High School Education in Ghana free was met with a lot of scepticism from the National Democratic Congress. In 2016, the NDC said we couldn’t deliver the Free Senior High School Programme. They said we couldn’t do it.
“The NDC were unable to pay Arabic Instructor’s allowances and teacher trainee’s allowances which were GHS70 million. If they couldn’t pay for those, how then could they have paid for the Free SHS which cost GHS2.2 billion? If the NDC were still in power, we wouldn’t have the free SHS programme”.
Currently, the Vice President is on a two-day tour of the Bono East Region and is expected to meet with NPP parliamentary candidates, chiefs and community leaders as the New Patriotic Party seeks to win the majority of parliamentary seats in the region.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia begun his 2-day campaign tour in the Bono East Region of Ghana on Wednesday, October 21.
As part of efforts to ensure the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victory in the upcoming 2020 General Elections, Dr. Bawumia will also address a durbar of chiefs and people of Kajeji and Atebubu.
His campaign tour follows the party’s number one position slot on the ballot paper at the end of electoral balloting held by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday.
Several officials of the NPP have stated that the first position shows the party’s leadership and dominance in all aspects. “It makes our campaign message a lot easier because in terms of all spheres of the country we are number one. Talk of economy, infrastructure, international recognition, education and everything else we are number one,” he stated.
