United Party Different from Other Third Force Seekers – Solomon Owusu

Solomon Owusu, National Director of Communications, United Party (UP-Plus)

National Director of Communications of the newly formed political party, United Party (UP-Plus), Solomon Owusu, has emphasized that the UP-Plus should not be put in the same bracket as other ‘smaller’ parties that have tried to be a ‘third force’ to the duopoly of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted that the party is putting measures in place that will distinguish it from other third-force seekers and make it worthy of a third force.

Mr. Owusu noted that the main reason why the other ‘smaller’ parties, often described as third-force seekers, fail is that they are not often prepared in terms of party structuring and planning.

“What has led most parties that come fresh, not succeed is that they come without any strategy and organizational structure. Organization decides everything.”

Solomon Owusu, National Director of Communications, United Party (UP-Plus).

He emphasized that his party has carefully analyzed some of such issues that often derail the progress of the supposed third force seekers and their eventual collapse in some cases.

“We have thought through this carefully, and I can tell you that in the coming days, you will be seeing the United Party in your constituency. You will be having our executives there. You would hear us more visibly.”

Solomon Owusu, National Director of Communications, United Party (UP-Plus).

He also argued that even before the formation of the UP-Plus, when they were only recognized as a movement for change, they exhibited some level of visibility that sets them apart from the other smaller parties.

“You would agree with me that ever since election 2024 was over, you can find communicators of the movement for change on every platform, as against all the other political parties, with the exception of the NPP and NDC that contested the election.

“Has it crossed your mind? We are following a particular script, and that is how come you see us always and always on all platforms, not just in Accra, but across the entire region. We mean business.”

The National Director of Communications for the UP-Plus further outlined the strategies and the organizational structures of the party that will make it a formidable and worthy third force to the duopoly of the NDC and NPP.

He first clarified that the United Party is not embedded in one person, as some have described it. He emphasized that discussions on the party should not just be about the leader, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, but the party as a whole. “Alan is not the United Party. Alan is part of the United Party. In fact, he is the leader of the United Party.” He stated.

He also stated that the UP-Plus will uphold the core principles of democracy by welcoming people form all parts of Ghana, from different political parties, and people with different perspectives, emphasizing that the party will even allow for a flagbearer contest between someone else and the current leader if need be.

He further emphasized that the party would have an organizational structure by having executives and representatives from the national to the ward level. He noted that this will ensure the party’s presence and visibility across the entire country.

He added that the party will participate in the general elections of 2028 and will have parliamentary candidates in all the 276 constituencies of Ghana.

“I want to assure every Ghanaian that come election 2028, number one, you will find the UP on the ballot. Number two, you will have parliamentary candidates in all the 276 constituencies. Number three, you will have our polling station agents.”

Breaking The Duopoly

The National Director of Communications of the United Party also cautioned that given their preparedness, organizational and structural prowess, and the evolving nature of the Ghanaian political discourse, people should not be quick to write them off.

He used the analogy of the Ghana Premier League, whereby in the past Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak had a duopoly over winning the league cup. However, it is not the case anymore. Other teams have emerged and won the league cup ahead of the supposed duopoly teams.

He therefore emphasized that this analogy is applicable in the Ghanaian political scene, even more so because the Ghanaian voters, mostly comprising the Generation Z class, no longer rely on party history, nor tribal affiliations, nor party affiliations. Their main concern is a leadership that will meet their needs, especially with job creation.
