Minority Demands Appearance Of Gold Board CEO Amid Procurement Questions And Financial Scrutiny

The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Honourable Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has called for urgent parliamentary action over matters relating to Gold Board operations. The Minority leader said issues surrounding the institution require structured legislative attention to strengthen public accountability.

Speaking during Parliamentary proceedings, Honourable Afenyo-Markin commended the Minister of Roads, Honourable Agbodza for consistent responsiveness. He added that timely engagement with Members of Parliament improves governance transparency and institutional coordination.

However, the Minority leader observed that concerns within government are often expected to be handled internally before public escalation. He explained that the Minority assumes responsibility when such matters demand broader parliamentary oversight.

He further indicated that developments surrounding Gold Board have entered public discourse and require clarification. The Effutu MP noted that a formal question has already been submitted requesting the appearance of the Chief Executive.

Honourable Afenyo-Markin appealed directly to the Majority Chief Whip to ensure the Gold Board Chief Executive is brought before Parliament. He stressed that procurement related matters require full examination under parliamentary procedures.

He stated that Gold Board was established through legislation passed by Parliament and must remain accountable to the House. The Minority leader emphasised that statutory bodies cannot operate outside legislative oversight.

“I am appealing to the Majority Chief Whip to ensure that the Chief Executive of Gold Board appears before Parliament. Questions have been filed and procurement matters require explanation.”

Honourable Afenyo-Markin also noted that parliamentary questions filed by Members reflect growing interest in institutional transparency. He added that public attention on Gold Board activities has increased the demand for scrutiny.

Additionally, he drew attention to the role of the Majority Chief Whip in coordinating government business in the House. The Effutu MP said the office holds significant influence over scheduling and parliamentary prioritisation.

He explained that effective coordination by the Chief Whip can advance accountability processes. The Minority leader added that timely responses from public institutions reinforce confidence in governance systems.

Honourable Afenyo-Markin highlighted that parliamentary oversight remains a constitutional responsibility. He said this duty ensures that institutions created by law operate within approved frameworks.

Parliamentary Pressure Mounts Over Gold Board Procurement And Oversight Role

The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Honourable Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin intensified calls for parliamentary scrutiny of Gold Board operations. He raised the matter during discussions focused on institutional accountability and public financial management.

Honourable Afenyo-Markin emphasised that Gold Board was created through an Act of Parliament. He stated that institutions established by law are required to report to Parliament on their activities and financial conduct.

The Minority leader explained that a Member of Parliament has already filed a question seeking clarification from the Chief Executive. He added that the request covers procurement decisions and related transactions.

He also urged the Majority Chief Whip to prioritise the scheduling of the question. The Effutu MP said timely parliamentary engagement would strengthen oversight and improve transparency.

Honourable Afenyo-Markin also referenced reported financial losses linked to Gold Board activities. He cited concerns attributed to international financial assessments indicating significant fiscal exposure.

The Minority leader stated that such concerns require detailed parliamentary examination. He added that public confidence depends on clear explanations from responsible authorities.

He stressed that procurement processes within Gold Board have drawn attention from citizens and stakeholders. The Effutu MP said this situation makes parliamentary inquiry even more necessary.

Honourable Afenyo-Markin further noted that the Majority Chief Whip plays a central role in organising government business in Parliament. He explained that the office can influence the pace of legislative responses.

He further explained that Parliament has a duty to protect public resources through oversight. The Effutu MP added that this responsibility ensures that institutions remain answerable to citizens.
