Nigerian reggae-dancehall artiste and songwriter, Patoranking has shared insights into his experience while creating his released album which boasts a diverse line-up of artistes from a great mix of backgrounds.
Patoranking described the album-making process as a challenging but ultimately enjoyable endeavor.
The album titled ‘World Best’ featured notable contributors such as Ludacris, Nigeria’s Vict0ny, Jamaican legend Beenie Man, and Ghana’s own Gyakie, among others.
“To be honest, I enjoyed every process, from production to recording to everything, it was all fun”, the dancehall singer said.
Speaking on his collaboration with Ghanaian ‘song bird’ Gyakie, the ‘No Kissing Baby’ hitmaker said that her involvement was a natural and effortless decision, humorously referring to her as “Jackie Chan”, to showcase their dynamic collaboration.
“You know there is something special about Gyakie and we needed that spice, and trust me, it wasn’t a difficult situation or decision when we said Gyakie. She just went in on the song and boom! Done”, Patoranking said.
The dancehall singer also said working with the American rapper Ludacris, was an amazing experience as the rapper and his team were very supportive and willing to collaborate with him on his album.
The singer also revealed that he featured the American rapper on his song “Miracle Baby”.
The album’s standout track ‘Babylon’ features one of Nigeria’s latest musical exports Victony and is an alluring wonder into the unknown. The seductive sounds are crafted by Nigeria’s renowned Phantom.
Patoranking further revealed that his roots as a traditional man raised in the ghetto inspired him to infuse elements of highlife, which he fondly terms “Galele”, into his album.
He disclosed that the ‘Galele’ sound made the song more enjoyable to listen to, adding that the album is on all streaming platforms.
The release of new album
Popular artist Patrick Okorie also known as Patoranking released his fourth album titled: “World Best”. He released ‘World Best” on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
It is a masterfully modern completion of this genre fusion driven by love, life, and conscious lyricism.
‘World Best’ is a testament to Patoranking’s evolution as an artist and his ability to bridge cultures and genres, solidifying his place as one of Africa’s leading musical talents.
From lush instrumentation to synthesized beats, the LP’s range of production holds a celebratory tone and is provided by an all-star cast of up-and-coming and well-known African producers. The list includes Phantom (Nigeria), Kel P (Nigeria), Killertunes (Nigeria), C-Tea (Ghana), Mix Master Garzy (Ghana) and many more.
The father of one has released a couple of albums in past years.
Over the last year, Young Willis produced ‘Kolo Kolo’ ft. Diamond Platnumz recently won ‘Best East Meets West Collaboration’ at the East Africa Arts Entertainment Awards (EAEA) 2023. ‘Abobi’ followed with its full-bodied melodies created by Nigeria’s Kel P, whose credits include multiple hits on Burna Boy’s ‘African Giant’ 2019 landmark album.
Over the summer, Patoranking dropped ‘ Higher‘, a spiritual vibration featuring cracking percussion sound and soft glowing synth chords, and unleashed the party starter ‘Tonight’ ft. Popcaan was produced by DJ Breezy (who is responsible for Patoranking’s 2014 hit ‘My Woman, My Everything’ ft. Wande Coal).
Patoranking started his music career doing underground collaborations, with artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam, and Reggie Rockstone. Also, he started his performing, arts career as a street jam and carnival dancer, adding that his stage name was given to him by a Jamaican artist whom he met at Alpha Beach in Lagos.
In February 2014, he signed a record deal with Foston Musik and released “Girlie O”, a single that put him in the limelight.
Foston Musik released the Tiwa Savage-assisted “Girlie O” (Remix) on 19 May 2014 to critical recognition. It debuted at No. 9 on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 chart.
