Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known by his stage name Shatta Wale has recently suffered trolls in the showbiz industry and it seems he is the only yardstick used to measure musicians in Ghana.
Every week for the past years, he has been in the news for bad reasons. Also, he was in the news after claims of receiving an amount of £80,000 for performing at the Ghana Music Awards UK 2023.
The artist’s rants on social media are believed that he might be struggling with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). NPD is a mental health in which the sufferer has an unreasonably high sense of importance.
It can be recalled that Shatta Wale went haywire on social media after he got the information that his colleague, Stonebwoy, had booked the same spot he wanted to have his Freedom Wave Concert but was advised by Sammy Flex, who is now Shatta Wale’s manager, to cancel his concert because it was going to cause discomfort to his team and fans.
It was speculated that Shatta Wale was doing that in order to gain more popularity in the entertainment industry, adding that he must be investigated for the truth to be known.
A media personality, Kwasi Aboagye, who is an employee of the Despite Media Group of Companies, labeled Shatta Wale’s claims as false. He stated blatantly that the reggae/dancehall artist cannot be paid such an amount of money for just a performance.
Kwasi Aboagye further stated that he still stood by his words and wouldn’t change them and later challenged Shatta Wale to pay tax on his £80,000 earnings and provide a public receipt.
Shatta Wale, who didn’t find his statement pleasant, descended heavily on Kwasi Aboagye’s employer, popular business mogul, Osei Kwame Despite, and his protégé, Fada Dickson.
He also expressed the hurt he usually feels anytime he is being lambasted by critics in the showbiz industry, adding that no one has the idea of the pain he goes through to survive.
Shatta Wale might have a lot on his table which could be the controversies around him are draining him.
Revealing the truth behind the claims that Shatta Wale was paid £80,000 as a performance fee, the Chief Executive Officer of the Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK, Eric Nii Tetteh, popularly known as Alordia confirmed that he paid Shatta Wale the said amount for this year’s award ceremony.
Reactions Of Some Industry Players
Shatta Wale, who flies off the handle at the slightest thing garnered some reactions from some industry players who thought his response to the situation was not handled correctly.
Entertainment critic and pundit, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo stated that it baffled him how some personalities in the entertainment industry are quick to defend Shatta Wale but fail to reprimand the musician when he does the same to other individuals in the creative arts industry.
He slammed Shatta Wale for unnecessarily attacking other people but gets livid when he is criticized by other players in the industry who have concerns about his claims and actions.
“THIS INDUSTRY… Sometimes, you sit and observe how things unfold in this industry and can’t help but smirk! See how many industry folks are running around on this app like a headless chicken – huffing and puffing over Kwasi Aboagye’s commentary,” Arnold Baidoo said.
Also, Neat FM presenter, Ola Michael, urged the Despite Media Group of Companies to ban the songs of Shatta Wale on all its platforms for raining insults on its owner.
He called on the media company and its employees to make a statement by prohibiting the musician’s songs from being played at the station.
The media personality further buttressed his call for a prohibition of Shatta Wale’s music by claiming the musician had stated that he could thrive without the support of mainstream media.
Others also commented that Shatta Wale must apologize for his actions.
