The regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened nominations for the parliamentary by-elections for the Ejisu Constituency, which lost its incumbent Member of Parliament, the late John Kumah, recent.
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has confirmed that some members of the NPP who showed interest in contesting the impending Ejisu parliamentary by-election have rescinded their decision to compete as only one aspirant has emerged.
He indicated that the decision by these members not to contest the election was taken out of the need to serve the party at both the regional and the national levels to ensure the party’s victory in both Parliamentary and Presidential elections in December.
“A typical example was the constituency Chairman. He showed interest and a lot of [NPP] elders in the region came to me and said that I should advise the constituency chairman to remain as a chairman to break everybody together and help coordinate the polling centers [during the by-election]”.

In the meantime, Dr. Evans Duah is the only interested candidate to pick up nomination forms from the party’s office today, 2nd April 2024, while flyers of about ten or more aspirants have been circulating on social media before the nomination was opened.
After picking his form, the Parliamentary aspirant, Dr. Evans Duah made known his plans and hopes for the Ejisu constituency, pledging that he would continue the good works of the late MP, John Kumah.
He also stated that the NPP is a formidable party full of intellectuals and a party that aims to bring young and dynamic people to the forefront. He indicated that his nomination for the parliamentary seat was to pay respect to the late MP whom he considered a brother.
“I as a person will never embark on anything if we are not winning. As you can see, we are winning, and winning is the only option on our table. Come the 13th of April, I will be declared as the new Parliamentary candidate for Ejisu constituency”. Dr. Duah noted.
Bawumia; The Better Choice
Meanwhile, the former interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Nandom Constituency, Mr. Ambrose Derry asserted that Ghanaians and Northerners, particularly, will have the opportunity to make their selections between Dr. Bawumia and John Mahama.
He indicated that the people of Nandom and the Northern region at large have the chance to choose between a President who leads them for eight years and brings developmental dividends to the north and a President who will lead for four years and bring no development to the people of the north.
Touting the achievements of the Vice President, the Member of Parliament emphasized that the NPP flagbearer has shown severally that he delivers on his promises through his efforts to digitalize major sectors of the economy.
Mr. Derry also indicated that retaining the Nandom Constituency alone will not ensure the NPP victory at the Presidential poll in December and promised to extend a helping hand to all constituencies to ensure that the party’s aim of breaking the eight is achieved.
Moreover, he accused the former President, John Mahama, of neglecting the Nandom constituency during his tenure of office. He indicated that the Nandom remained without tarred roads, water, and other essential amenities during Mahama’s four-year tenure.
“As for John Mahama and his MP, they will bring you five pieces of Maggie cubes. They haven’t changed, have they changed? They haven’t learned any lessons; all they do is you vote for them, four years you don’t see them, election time they are back”.
Mr. Ambrose Derry
The Member of Parliament indicated that the former President has no motivation to be transparent in his dealings and be accountable to Ghanaians if he should come for a second tenure in office.
Conclusively, he advised the Nandom constituency and the Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for a better future economic prospect.
